In addition to the sidebar Search Options available at the BlackjackInfo site search, you can use special search operators to make advanced searches.

As an example, let's say you were curious about whether you should use a different strategy at blackjack when using a match-play coupon. Below are some of the search tactics you might want to use.

Multi-word searches

The easiest way to search for a multi-word phrase is to just type the words into the search box. Searching for match play strategy will find documents that include all of the chosen words. (You can use the controls in the sidebar to change this to match "Any" words instead.)

That works fairly well, but you still get a fair number of unrelated documents in the search.

Phrase searches

Enclosing the search phrase in quotes means that only that particular sequence of words will match the search. However, searching for "match play strategy" returns no results (at least at the of this writing). That exact phrase doesn't appear in the indexed sites.

Logical "And" Operator (&)

You can use the "&" sign in a search as a boolean "and" operator. (You can accomplish the same thing for simple searches using the sidear "All Words / Any Words" selection. However, the "And" operator can be easily combined with other operators as you'll see. A search for "match play" & strategy is an example.

Logical "Or" Operator (|)

The vertical bar character "|" can be used as a boolean "or" operator. A search for "match play" & (strategy | advice) might return some results where the word strategy did not appear, but the word advice did appear in conjunction with match play.

Logical "Not" Operator (~)

The tilde character (~) can be used to prefix a word to exclude results that include that word. For example, if you found that your previous results kept giving you strategies for using match play coupons at roulette, you might want to exclude that word from the search. Try searching for ("match play" & strategy) & ~roulette.
