Hi Macc,

I'm not sure what state you're from or how far you're willing to travel - however here in Queensland, the only BJ tournament I've known of is at Jupiters on the Gold Coast, I think about 5 years ago or so. They also have regular weekly Poker tournaments. I may be mistaken, as I don't keep my finger on the pulse of promotions like that as much as I'd like, but that's all I know of. As far as Brisbane's Treasury goes, I've not seen any BJ tournaments ever.

They seem to have somewhat regular Pokie tournaments, and of course Poker as well - but never Blackjack that I know of.

I'd be really curious as to any news and tournaments that do come up though, would be good to branch out from cash play alone.

Does anyone have any tournament experience they could share?

BJ Tourny

Jupiter’s on The Gold Coast are having one on the Queen’s birthday weekend. Buy-in is $5k with 21 entrants. First prize is $70k. They play their standard rules and will provide airfare and accommodation for most players. There are also tournaments in Brisbane, Cairns, Sydney and a few smaller casinos like Lasseter’s. New Zealand host a few each year also.

Counting in Tournaments

If you are going to play in a BJ tournament get a copy of Wong’s Tournament Strategy book, you will need to adjust to some changes from some of the US rules but well worth a read. As far as counting goes it has far less weight in tournament play. It is good to know the count for making adjustments to Basic Strategy, however as you will find, Tournament play is all about money management.

Blackjack tournament

I work for Casino canberra and I know they are just waiting for approval to run a blackjack tournament first weekend in September. Buy in will be $500 and with the max of 98 players first prize will be $25000. Hope this helps.

I've never quite understood the Blackjack tournament concept, is every CC that plays immediately banned?
