yeah, i dunno. well for your pool and AP stuff and i guess even your professional endeavors, like maybe not first place every time, but doubtless you had satisfying goals within that first place goal. happyness still happened with in all that striving i've no doubt.
just to me, there's more to Sisyphus or any other poor dumb sluck, than some goal. it's like that Man of La Mancha story i like so much, the guy with the book fried brain thinking he's slaying giants and winning fair maidens and all. i mean heck who of us is so knowing as to understand everything, but heck a guy just wants to take a shot at life i guess and maybe get some sense of value out of the struggle.

How do you know?
Have you ever heard of Kentucky Fried Frog?

I would rather take my chances where I at least had a chance, no matter how remote, of succeeding. To take a stab at life in a totally hopeless endeavor is insane IMHO. To go through the motions because in fact you have no other option, well that has some virtue, owing to the fact that you had no choice in the first place, so you're bringing a certain amount of heroism to the task by your attitude. Life comes to no good for all of us, yet we rise above the hopelessness of it all, but still life does have a purpose beyond the present, and it is only a gateway, so maybe even that is not a good example. Maybe we have no chance to get to the top in our profession for some reason or other, so we simply do our best. Yes, that is a hopeless situation, but again we have little choice in the matter except to make life an endless series of "Take this job and shove it"'s. hahaha That is a tempting life, if you ask me--but pretty insane at the same time.

All I said was that "I" wouldn't liken him to Zippy the Pinhead, not you. So, explain to me, Zippy.
