Default Chat room?

Where's the chat room heading?

I am making slow progress in implementing a long-term solution, possibly based on this:
http://amiadogroup.github.com/candy/

Moving to an XMPP-powered backend also lays the groundwork for another project I have planned.

The current chat solution is supposed to have an updated version within a couple of weeks which might address a few of the issues. But I think we'll end up on a different platform soon regardless.

Is there some reason the old chatroom needed to be replaced? This new chatroom is so vastly inferior in every way, and riddled with bugs. Good to hear that you are thinking about solutions, but why not just put the very functional and user-friendly java chat that we had before back? I think it's fair to say we've given this one its day in court, and it seems that everyone who actually makes regular use of a chatroom at this site greatly preferred the old one.

I get it, I really do.

The one thing we gained with the new version is the IM capability that many had requested.

Also, I hate to spend another license fee for the Java chat software when I have bigger plans to build upon eventually. Still, I might consider it on a month-to-month basis for a while. I'll give it some thought. Likely won't happen for a few days regardless.

There are two main complaints about the current chat:
1) The windows are too small and can't be resized.
2) After about 15 minutes, you get sort of logged out and cannot chat until you refresh the page.

If there are other complaints about the current version, let me know as that will influence my decision.

I keep hoping that ArrowChat will release v1.1, which originally was rumored to be due in August.

3. You can't see who is in the chat room without entering it.
4. The name list to the right is unreliable. There are people in the chat room that you sometimes can't see, and it says people are in there that are not.

Why is it an issue to turn the old one back on in the interim? zg

I don't want to lose the IM capability. That's the main reason.
The monthly $13 license expense of the old software is a minor consideration as well.
