Tournament stragedy when only one player advances?

What is the best stragedy to use when playing tournament blackjack and only the player with the most chips get to advance and second place and below get nothing?

My stragedy so far is to be super aggressive in my betting and play the best stragedy possible but in two tournaments I'm a dispointing 0-2 losing on two gigantic bets which I saw as my only chance to win.

I need some tournament advice for this format.

In cash games at blackjack I'm consistly winning money on a regular basis and sometimes I even get backed off of blackjack games but I have had limited luck in tournaments that are free to enter or are relatiely cheap like a buy in only $20 or so. I like these tournaments because unlike poker they return 100% or more of the buy-in amount which make them profitable for the average player!!!

hi

I'm pretty sure Stanford Wong wrote a book on how to win tournement blackjack. I haven't read it but if I were interested in tournements I'd sure read it. Sorry, I'm not sure of the title but no doubt someone on this site can tell you.
Good luck.

When only one player advances, you do generally need to be aggressive. Even so, I usually start those rounds with minimum bets. Occasionally, the dealer will wipe out enough bankrolls around the table that this pays off. When it doesn't work (almost always), you need to start betting mid-round to catch the chip leaders.

We talk about this sort of stuff non-stop at the sister site to BlackjackInfo:

The book rogue1 mentioned is Casino Tournament Strategy by Stanford Wong.

Wong is still it, despite being woefully out of date with modern techniques.

The best resources other than Wong's book and BlackjackTournaments.com are Blackjack Insider and All-In magazine.

Tamburin's BJInsider can be found at http://www.bjinsider.com , but you'll need a subscription to read most of the articles. Subscribing also gets you access to all back issues.

tournament question

I understand that Ken Eininger also wrote a book on tournament play. If I read Stanford Wongs' book on tournament play do you guys think I should also read the Ken Eininger book?
Thanks.

Einiger's book is an entertaining read, but the strategy advice is a fairly small part of the book. On the other hand, if you're looking for advice on the new UBT-style elimination blackjack, it has some useful guidelines. For the price, Play to Win is not a bad purchase.

I know about those... but what OTHER book can you recommend to me? Is there anything else besides Einiger? zg

Basically, no. I'm only aware of one other book on tournaments, by someone calling themselves "BJ Phantom". I have it around here somewhere, but it's pretty forgettable.

If I weren't so lazy, there would be a new competitor in that market. :)
