Talk about Comps

Ken, you should be here in Singapore. The Comps on the cruise ship based here in Singapore is 10%. Yes, you have read it correctly - 10%.

Now you may think it maybe some cheap cruise here. No it's not. It is world class. The ship is owned and operated by the third largest cruise line company in the world. As an example, for a 3N/4D cruise from Singapore to Phuket, Thailand you would pay S$1600 (US$1.00=S$1.65) for 2 person in 1 cabin. You can either pay for this amount in cash or pay using 30 points for the ship casino loyalty card.

The casino uses the CSM equipment and thanks to your website B.J. Trainer I can play almost perfect Basic Strategy now. The casino plays the ENHC game and with the sets of rules for B.J. the house advantage is .44%. Not bad even by U.S. standard, right?

The house award the player 1.10 points for each hour of play for the table miniumum bet of S$10. For the standard S$25 table minimum bet the points awarded is accordingly 1.1 x 2.5 i.e. 2.75 points per hour of play. The points are awarded irrespective of the size of the player's bet. I always flat bet and play only on tables that are almost full or full (the speed of play is estimated to be 60 rounds per hour). Now to get 30 points my playing time would be 30 divided by 2.75 i.e. 10.9 hours. Total amount of bets wager would be S$25 x 60 x 10.9 i.e. S$16,350. Since the free cruise would have cost S$1,600 the Comps is hence about 10%.

So what is the score on my gambling action. My overall result for 15 cruises during the last 6 months is a loss of S$650.00. Now, don't you feel sorry for the casino. The drop in the casino is estimated to be 1 million S$ per day.

John from Singapore.

Very nice!

Nice choice of username as well, Cruiser!

You're getting $1600 worth of cruise for an expected loss of only about $72. Looks like you're doing even better than that, with a cost per cruise so far of only $43. That's a sweet deal!
