I have little experience with brick and mortar video blackjack, but two things to look out for:

1) Deck may reshuffle on every hand. This means you can't count it.

2) Sometimes the payouts blow on overblown slots with a blackjack mode. If blackjack pays 2 for 1, (instead of 3 to 2) that's really only an even-money payoff, and that alone yields a big house edge.

Also, I've heard of some video blackjack machines that are even more slotlike, in that they don't use a real deck of cards, but are constructed to have, say, a 95% payout, like a slot.

no way to do card counting, if yes, everyone will bring a paper to the machine and do the counting comfortably~ we can do level-3 counting with ease....

i played on a machine which has 1 to 1 payout for blackjack....i think what we can do is basic strategy only....quit when we are winning even it is 1 unit.

I saw a brief story that some places in Vegas had video blackjack machines which followed real blackjack rules, but allowed tiny bets (quarter, etc). They were described as an excellent way to get free booze.

I've yet to find a bar machine in Vegas that pays 3-2 on Bj. Most are double only 10/11,split once, ect, ect. S17.
But you can slowplay them for as little as 25cents and get free drinks while you play.I've done it quite a bit.
I use Oscars Grind, but usually start at 50 cents.DO NOT USE the double up feature,it is a surefire way to lose your money very quickly.

Video BJ

I have been playing Video blackjack at Harrah's Cherokee, NC. for several years. I have found no difference in win/loose record there than at a normal BJ table. The rules are quite liberal (DAS, Double any 2 cards, Split any pair up to 3 times) but S17. BJ pays 3:2. Its possible to count as you can see the other video displays but the pen doesn't look to good. Maybe 50-60%.
I don't card count (a sin on this forum:eek: ) but I enjoy going there. Next closiest casino is about 400 miles away.
My wins have beat out my loses by a little so I'd say the games are honest.
Harrah's is having an invitational Video BJ tourament on Sunday the 19th. Looking forward to it.

Actually 2:1 is bigger than 3:2. Say you bet $100 if playing 2:1 rule you would get $200 and in 3:2 you get $150. Maybe you meant 1:1 :)

Negative, it's a different in table terminology vs. slot terminology.

At a table game, if something pays "1 to 1", it's an even money bet, and you win an amount equal to what you wager, as well as getting your wager back.

At a slot, if something pays "1 for 1", then it's really a push. You get back the unit you bet, but nothing more.

In slots and most video BJ,you surrender your bet before you play.Every winning hand in BJ pays the same 2 for 1.
In table games if you win,you get paid an amount plus you keep your original bet.
Four TO one is the same as five FOR one

Please don't misguide people based on your own selective memory, as the double up feature is one of the few things in Vegas with no house edge.

This is akin to advising people to not take the odds in Craps, as it makes it easier to lose your money quicker.

These two things have no house edge, and no player edge. Furthermore, no casino that I know of comps for these things.

So why the hell would you risk any bankroll at all doing it?

Any bet that does not have a distinct and significant (relative to the bet size) positive expectation brings us closer to gambler's ruin and should be avoided. Take even odds bets long enough and you will lose all your money. So will the casino, but whoever loses all theirs first has to stop playing, and I think you will be bankrupted before the casino is.
