4 Arrested At Casino With Cheating Device

#1
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- State police arrested four people at the Mohegan Sun casino after they were caught with a card counting device.

State police said the New York residents were using the device at a baccarat table Saturday to determine the order or cards in the deck before they were dealt.

All four were charged with cheating while lawfully gambling, possession of a cheating device, first-degree larceny and first-degree criminal trespass.

Yuan Chen, 50, Dong Zhong, 45, Jim Tong, 41, and Yu Feng, 37, were each being held on $10,000 bond and were scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Norwich Superior Court.

I've read about these devices before. They're about 10,000$ apiece. The ones for Multiple-Deck are called Multiple-Magic, and the ones for Single and DD are called, BlackMagic. They can tell you exactly, what the Dealers Hole-Card is over 75% of the time.

Strange how the State Police get involved when someone tries to cheat the casino, but if you claim the casino cheated you,it's a Sovereign Nation outside their jurisdiction.

Yes, you can not touch them but if they want to arrest you the state moves in. There again it may be better to go to state prison than to be scalped.

Can you explain how it works? Even if it was some kind of shuffle tracking device it seems far-fetched.

The one I saw advertised on the internet looks like a car remote. There are 2 buttons, 1 for +1, 1 for -1. You click the corresponding button for the card tag. As you continue counting the device vibrates or clicks and depending on the speed or the clicks it gives you the TC. As far as the more advanced ones I havent looked those up. The ones I saw were much less then 10k, If I remember correctly they were about $1,200.

I like my freedom.... I'll stick to using my head.

It doesn't even calculate the TC for you. It only tells you the running count. You still have to do the conversion in your head, along with the bet sizing and playing indices. It really doesn't do anything except keep the running count for you, which is the easiest part of counting.

Idiots!

Pay ten grand or one grand or whatever for a device that only keeps the running count, which we all know is not that hard to do. Also, when I pass a baccarat game I always see people with these note sheets recording cards. So, that appears to me that the casino does not really care if you wrote down the count on these sheets as the hands are dealt out anyway.
So spend all that money for a gizmo that does for you what the casino will let you do for yourself and not only have you been taken by the seller but you have the added bonus of now going to jail.
Some would say you go to jail for cheating. I would say you go to jail in this case for being an idiot.

No, not in the least. This is a completely different device, than a counter clicker. It is very sophisticated. First, you have to input all the cards, you see into the machine. On the next shuffle, you start, inputing the cards you see into the machine again, and now the device will know, what card(s) is/are missing, by which cards have been played. Its basically a super advanced shuffle tracker. Only with Multiple and Multiple shuffles, can BlackMagic be defeated.

Bryce Carlson, has a 4 page section, soley on this topic, BJFB, Page 191, under computers.

The seller says it is real?

Hey jay its says in the site that the device is completely legal.
Is that true? any thoughts on that?
One simple question, will the seller spend your time in jail if you happen to be someplace where it is illegal.
Devices that do nothing more than keep a + or - count are I believe illegal in Nevada and they say this is more sophisticated.

IMHO, I would imagine the device is completely legal to own but completely illegal once you take inside a casino. Not something I would do or recommend doing unless you don't mind a few years locked up. It properly doesn't work anywhere near as good as the video shows, I wonder how many takes they had to do to get it right?.

17, The link I posted was a video of a roulette computer in action (not BJ computer) however, I would like to to see that in the small print.

Well if it's the device that that team used when they took the Ritz in London for about 1.3 million pounds in 2004 it was defnitely legal then as they were eventually let go by Scotland Yard and seized money returned. It was deemed their scanner had no effect on the wheel or the ball so they had broken no law.

Since then, at least by 2006 or so, casinos have stepped up security for such devices and that they are banned from being used at a table. And I think casinos have been told by the Commission? that casinos should not pay people using it and winning. But, yet, it seemed like it had not been ruled illegal yet. Apparently the authorities are afraid that if they made it illegal it might imply that roulette was biased and not fair.

But, you know, that team deserves to go to jail just because they were so stupid that after winning 100,000 the first night they go back the next night and win 1.2MM more. That's got be a crime of some kind lol. Talk about killing the Golden Goose.
