Shameful B.J. Procedures at Mont Tremblant

#1
My excitement at playing the new Casino at Mont Tremblant, while on vacation last week (Thursday Jan. 14th), was quickly replaced with disgust.

I sat down with friends to play Black Jack. The dealer announced "last hand" as the "cut card" eventually came up. As players, we continued to play the cards dealt us. The dealer dealt my playing partner a "black jack",me a "soft 17" and dealt herself a "2". She then announced she could not continue as she said "last hand" ? she would not pay the "black jack" and made an effort to collect the played cards. There were 20-30 cards left in the shoe. At this point I asked her not to collect the cards as the house dealt everyone at the table including herself. I asked to speak with a "pit boss" or "supervisor". Another dealer came over and said "sorry" but that was the "last hand" and would "not be played nor any black jack paid". I again asked for a supervisor. After 5 minutes ?? a supervisor arrived and reiterated that they would not continue play or payup ? After continued debate they would not waver and she announced "this is not Vegas" ? I will never play there again and will share the shameful customer service with all players, the Casino and Tourism Quebec.

TheCasino has a legal obligation to pay the hands if they dealt the cards. It is considered a verbal contract when the player places money in the betting circle and the cards are dealt. (in the U.S, anyway) The Casino violated this contract... In this case I would pursue legal action. They basically stole from you.

Why? Do you believe no patron has ever been cheated by the house?
It's not that I believe no one has ever been cheated by the house, but that the casino would allow 95% penetration. The casino is run by a group that typically cuts the pen at 65-70% in all their other casinos. So I doubt they would make an exception and allow a 95% cut.

Where does it say 95% penetration?

Also note that the casino is pretty new. Maybe they haven't clamped down on the penetration yet.

The poster mentioned 25-30 cards left. Out of four decks, 26 cards cut off is 87.5% penetration, which isn't quite 95% and is in fact much more plausible. I have seen cuts like that with my own eyes at several stores.

And perhaps Lance is not an expert like us and underestimated the amount of cards left for the purpose of his story. Maybe there was actually closer to a deck left and his eyes weren't trained as well as ours to know the difference.

I don't see a motive to make up something like this. It all sounds quite plausible to me.

Sure, but the games aren't 4 deck.
Right, I was confused with something else.

But still, poster never mentioned 95% penetration.

Maybe the dealer realized they had in fact gone too far, and that is why they called it dead.

I think that the cut card may have came out in the previous round. Then once the dealer dealt another round, noticed that the cut card came out a long time ago, and called it dead. Either way, this should never happen, as it has happened to me at other casinos and they had to pay my blackjack. I think what they are supposed to do is actually give you a choice whether or not you want to play the hand, or burn it.

So a couple of players, got to take a few hits on their hands?

If yes, would they of payed your friends BJ, before the cut-card came out?

Ive actually heard of practices, where they stop the hands, when the cut-card comes out, but they leave the hands in play, and continue them after the shuffle.

Is this a new casino or just recently started dealing BJ, by any chance? Theres a possibilty, they could just be making an error in their dealing procedured, without knowing it.

There also might be a way to exploit this procedure. For example, you could spread 5-7 hands on the last round, and dictate the cut card by the amount of hits taken  Thats w/maxbets!

Blue Efficacy is Correct

Blue is correct, I am not an expert and was not aware that the quoted 20-30 left in the shoe was a big deal. I don't honestly know how many cards were left, it looked like 20 or 30 to me. This storey is true I have no other agenda but to share this with you experts and weekend warriors. I wrote this because I felt I was not treated properly. I could have spent my money on a Carribean vacation but decided on Mont Tremblant. Lance

Québec has three casinos: casino de Montréal, casino du Lac-Leamy (in Gatineau Qc where I live), casino du Mont-Tremblant, and casino de Charlevoix in Pointe au Pic Qc. The rules are awful (8 decks, H17, DAS, No Surrender, Peek) for a house advantage of 0.69%. Min bet is usually 15$ and max is 300$ (in the afternoons you can play for min 10$). I have played there more than anywhere else in the world (my hometown) and when the cut card comes out they always finish the hand, always. Mont-Tremblant casino is new and so are the dealers and pit boss, maybe the yellow card was already out when she started to dish out new cards (?), but even then, it's not the players fault. Imagine a big amount ($) and you get a BJ

«sorry sir, we don't pay you because of dealer mistake?»

Bad business practice.

This IS the rule in the Quebec casinos, and I suspect that this is probably what happened. The dealer and/or bosses SHOULD have explained it better, however.

I HAVE used this rule a couple of times to my advantage in Ottawa. The first time, the cut card came out; the dealer didn't notice it, and dealt another round. My BP got a blackjack with a $500 bet, so I kept my mouth shut. The second time this happened (later that night), my BP got a stiff; so I said to the dealer "The cut card is out". She called the boss over, who called it a "dead hand". (One of the ploppies had a BJ THIS time, so I DID make ONE enemy :))

Moral of the story: Whenever a dealer makes a mistake, keep your mouth shut until it's advantageous for you to speak up.

It only cost you one time to learn not to play last hand.
Tell us what the rules and pene were. zg
