Every time we go to LV I swear I'm gonna make my first visit to the El Cortez. Haven't done so yet. I hear a lot of chatter here over the years concerning the Spaniard! I will for sure drop in the place on my next LV trip. What's the deal with the El Cortez? Thanks.:joker:

great games, but super sweaty. also, very depressing, smoky, almost everyone is rude. bartenders, PB, dealers, players. It's like a degenerate convention in there. honestly, I don't see why people talk it up on this forum.

A couple of years ago, I put together a three week trip in which I bundled all of my comped rooms together. I stayed in the old section for two nights (actually one night as the second night I decided just to play all night long and move to my next destination in the morning) and I can tell you that those 'free' rooms are way overpriced!

Does have a bit of that 'old vegas' charm though, for those of us that are to young to have experienced old vegas.

Hey-thank you all for your replies. Taking them into consideration I think I'll go for a visit-like 1 hour, just to know I've done it!:joker:

If you think the EC is smoky and full of low-lifes, visit Palace Station. Then you'll think you were at the Bellagio

I don't know when your were there last, but it has not been smokey for at least several years. They spent a fortune on a new air system and it works wonders.

Any list of dumps that doesn't include Wild Wild West , Longhorn, Big Horn
and the North Vegas Nuggets is incomplete. Decent BJ, but horribe casinos

It was last year, and there isn't a single air system designed to keep up with the volume of smoke put out by the low lifes in there. Possibly a jet engine wind tunnel could put a dent in the smoke volume, but nothing more.

Nobody smiles or laughs in there. I saw a lot of slot players with food trays so they can keep playing and eating. There's a short hallway to enter the bathroom and I had a guy actually yelling at me to get out of his way. So I walked slower to start a fight with him.

that place really got to me.:flame:

It's a shame you had a bad time at El Cortez. As you can tell from my handle, I kind of like the joint. The rooms have always been real clean and they're almost as nice as anywhere else downtown...but I AM a bit pissed they've banned smoking in the tower and vintage rooms. I'm treated very well by staff and don't get all that much interest from the pit critters despite varying my bets. I NEVER pay for food (which is quality) and often get the room comped. It's a bitch you had a bad time there. I'll grant you that the place has a different clientele than Bellagio or Mandalay Bay, but that's fine with me - I can't stand those whiney fanny-pack types and those spoiled, young, snotty Californians anyway.

I love the El Cortez myself, and have been playing there for more than 30 years. I agree that the rooms are as good as anything downtown, and you certainly can't beat the prices. But I have to take exception to your statement that they serve quality food there. Even Roberta's Steak House; which IMO only rises to the level of your average Denny's.

What's the deal?
The only single deck $5 tables in town.

They got me in ten minutes. Be careful.
They checked my play the first time I raised my bet, watched me for about 10 minutes, then let me play for 6 hours! Not bragging really. However, my act as a loud frat boy probably let me stay there. hootin and hollerin and getting obnoxious when I raised my bet might have helped. Also, I'm charming to old lady pit bosses.

I still hate the place though.
