I've read that AP's should NOT get players cards. however...I didn't read that until AFTER I already had a few.

the casinos I have players cards with are local for me...and the ones I frequent most often. 2 of the casinos are generous with comps....I've enjoyed several nice meals..free events...and free $$ to play with.

comments or critiques welcome.

I am new to BJ and AP....want to learn all I can.

thanks

Not giving a card if you play high amounts is a big red flag to a casino. They figure only a counter would turn his back on valuable comps. That makes you either naive or a counter. You will be assumed a counter 'til you prove to be naive.

thanks!

If BJ continues to be profitable I will soon be traveling to play...what is your opinion about player cards when playing away from home? do tourist/ploppies usually get cards? if so it makes sense to try to blend into the crowd and look like I want freebies.

again....I really value and appreciate the information I am learning from all of the experienced APs on this forum!

You can try no card but if the pit asks, talk to them about the benefits of a card and then let them get you one. Lots of people play with no card but choosing not to after they approach you is a red flag. They would love to not comp you. It is the denial of this benefit when offered that really starts them thinking.

I use a players card for slot play only and typically get 10 free hotel stays a month and that's just one place. Then 8-9 nights out of the 10 I can concentrate on bj without using my card and still get benefits.

Of course, you use a "player's card."

To do otherwise is simply suspicious.
The use of a players card is often an enormous mistake for an AP. If and when you do get backed off, a players card can forever tarnish whatever name is associated with that card. Depending on the network to which that casino belongs, the name associated with your card could be poisoned at many properties.

A card also makes it easier and more likely for a casino to track your wins and losses. Granted, if you're a frequent visitor, the casino will likely create a card (or at least an entry in their computer) for you so that they may track your play, but presenting a card guarantees that your play will be tracked.

I'm not saying that you should never use a players card, but it's not an "of course" decision either way, and the tendency should be not to use one.

I agree with this.

Of course it can. Once you get backed off; THEN stop using the card. Get one in another name.

A recreational player with frequent visits to their favorite home casino is likely
to be spending 4 or more hours at the tables.
Ergo, they need a player's card.

Yes you should have a players card where you play frequently. If need be, keep in mind, don't go out of your way to give them one ;) Also, the comps are nothing to sneeze at.

Places you go less frequently, not too much suspicion at lower limits, plenty of ploppies don't use cards.

If you play higher limits, you better have a good act to not give a players card. If you fit the profile of a Russian or Italian mobster or a drug dealer, you would arouse less suspicion (see these types some times and they avoid player cards - generally for the same reason we wouldn't want too).

Also other excuse I've seen higher limit players not use one, they don't want the wife to see the mail offers.
