SkyCity Adelaide Casino

I live in Adelaide, I've been spending a lot of time recently learning how to count cards and today I started researching Adelaide Casino and it seems like people say it only uses CSMs.

So is card counting in Adelaide completely dead? Are there any other options for advantage play blackjack? I won money last week using basic strategy and I enjoyed playing a lot, now that I realise there is no way to gain an advantage this is quite depressing!

So, am I just wasting my time practising card counting if I have to live in Adelaide for the next few years and should I focus on something else, say Poker?

I know I've probably already answered my question by reading the other posts on this forum, but I want to card count so badly I had to ask this question again myself...just in case there WAS some other option for advantage play.

You'd need to access the VIP room in Adelaide. Your other option is interstate travel. Crown Casino, Melbourne, or Tasmania would be your best bets. Tasmania can only tolerate low level play, however.

I find myself in a similar situation... learnt to count, only to realise that Australia is a wastleland for counters. I'm not too keen to start counting at Crown with the ~0.6% house advantage and $30 minimum tables (I believe smaller limit tables at crown use CSMs).

That's what I play, the $30 tables in Crown's Monte Carlo room. Given up to 90% pen, it isn't that terrible at all. A 1-12 spread, Wonging in at +2 and out at -2 should yield you around 1 unit/hr win rate.

Having spent the last 2 nights at Crown, i must say its not too bad. Didnt seem to be any heat at all (from wonging), deck penetration is as you said, and yeah... just wish i brought a bigger bankroll on this trip!

I wonder if any of the pacific islands have any casinos worth playing at... airfares and accomodation is fairly cheap to those places! Any ideas fellow players??

LOL! Either way... Crown beat him to it.

Played 2 nights in the Maple room, $25 crown BJ. Wonged in at +2 and kept playing till count got in the negative. Penetration was about 80-90% and there was no heat. I was flat betting at the table minimum and lost 4 units over the 2 nights. Took forever for the count to get positive so I was half asleep by the time it did.

On Sunday night I was counting for over an hr and at no point did the count get over +1... so i went to play $10 sports BJ for some entertainment. Lost a few more units there but was expected I guess.

You sure you were in the Maple room? The tables there are $30 minimum. The $25 shoe games in the former baccarat room are Crown's regular BJ games, 0.76% HE. I'd stay away! The Sports BJ is a whopping 2.5% HE, why did you bother?

I do know what you mean though about waiting for the count to rise, those damn ASMs make me suspicious at times. I have counted shoe after shoe sometimes only to find the TC never deviates far from -2 to +2.

I was in that small room opposite one of the bars which has BJ, roulette and possibly some other games. The BJ tables were ‘Crown BJ’. I may be mistaken about it being the Maple Room. I didnt play on any $30 tables.

Yeah it seemed suspicious that the count is almost ALWAYS negative. I have to question their honesty. In addition, with 8 decks you cannot expect the count to deviate much from -2 to +2. I read in a book that with 8 decks the count is between -2 and +2 for 80% of the time (however thats with the Hi-Opt I system).

I was in Melbourne just for a brief getaway and didnt really come with the intent of playing serious BJ... although if I go back ill be bringing a more appropriate bankroll. Btw, how did u calculate a 2.5% HE on the Sports BJ?? I just played that cause there was a $5 minimum table upstairs and thought id kill some time lol

Yeah you were in the room opposite Margo's bar and restaurant, with the $25 Crown BJ tables. The Monte Carlo room is right at the end, near the Atrium bar and atrium itself. Sports BJ pays 6:5, it's H17, D9-11 only, hence the >2% HE. It's a shocker of a game!

Ohh ok. I didnt realise how much BJ paying 6:5 affects the HE. What is the difference between Crown BJ and Premiere BJ??

Either way, I’ll be going back to playing BS on Star Citys video BJ this weekend which has a HE of around -0.15%. I’ve had quite some success with that in the past.

NEVER play 6:5BJ. It's a suckers game. Premier BJ has no doubling restrictions, whereas regular BJ is D9-11 only. Furthermore, the Mahogany room is S17.
