report on the other site of the Maloof's selling the majority of their shares to TPG Capital, who are the owners of Caesars entertainment. There seems to be a debate concerning the exact details, but it certainly doesn't look like good news.:(

Palms/Caesars

I'm sure all the full pay video poker will be the first thing to go.
The blackjack games are nothing to write home about now.

No I don't. usually only when I have a match play coupon. I don't remember the specific condition on my last trip there, but I do remember thinking they weren't horrible, meaning playable for me but probably not something I seek out in a property that is a bit out of the way. If they were on the strip with several other playable properties within a 2 minute walk, maybe. I do have some MP's I am now going to try to get in over the next month just incase they stop honoring them. As per HL rooms, I find your observation applys to many places. While they sometimes offer better rules, they still protect those games. Sometime with lousy pen, sometimes with sweaty pit people. I think the eye pays more attention to goings on in HL rooms and there are just more eyes on you in general with several pit people with nothing to do, often watching, so I avoid HL rooms as a rule, unless they are offering something really special. I am not really at a level that I should be playing HL rooms anyway.

This gets a little complicated, but This group does not own Caesars, per say. Apollo owns Caesars and TPG co-owns Caesars debt. TPG is buying the Palms but will not operate it. Day to day operations should not change much, if at all.

I am not real knowledgeable in the business end of things, so I am sure you know more than I, but didn't the recent Penn Gaming acquistion of M go the same way. First they announced they were only acquiring the debt and the next thing you know they owned the place. Also if day to Day operations are not changing why does the report suggust total rewards will be in place by the end of the year?

From what I understand, Penn and Marnell had very close ties before Penn purchased M's debt. Marnell develops all of Penn's properties. Marnell will continue to manage M and is seeking an equity stake in M.

But, imo, you can kiss the full pay VP goodbye at Palms. That's the main change I have seen at M since Penn bought Marnell out besides removing all the self-serve soda stations.

Pardon my ignorance, its been a few years since I played Palms,
but a sale to TPG wouldn't make the games any worse, right? zg

I don't know. But I don't think it will make the games any better!

As I stated, earlier, Palms isn't a regular stop for me, mainly because they are a bit isolated. I only stop there if I have a coupon or bonus making it worth the trip. I do remember on my last stop thinking the bj game wasn't horrible. 6 deck, standard h17 rules, but a little better penetration than I remembered previously. I remember thinking if there was anything else playable close by, I would probably stop there a little more. They do send out quaterly coupon books to local resident with 3 matchplay coupons. These are not club card member mailing but rather regular mailings to the general population, in addition to any club card mailing you might receive. I'll bet they tighten up on that as the evil empire doen't think to much of us locals.

Buying the Palms

I think we should all pool our money and buy the Palm's ourselves. Then we could offer some quality single deck games. And no APer would have to worry about getting the boot. :)

There would be no reason to offer good SD games when all the 6:5 SD tables all over Vegas are full all the time!

I doubt you were being serious, but such a business strategy would not be sustainable.

Small to moderate amounts of low-limit card counting are not a danger, but if a card counter gets into the high limit room, a casino DOES have reason to worry.

Card Counters aren't the APs I'd be worried about.

I heard new management has now taken over and already gutted all +EV video poker. I would assume the blackjack has or will be annihilated shortly. Can anyone confirm this?

If this pattern continues it seems like it will eventually lead to some anti-trust issues.
Anti-trust? I doubt it. You have several large players in Vegas, CET, MGM Resorts, Station Casinos, and Boyd Gaming (Coast casinos, The Orleans, Sam's Town). Maybe add Sands (Venetian, Palazzo).
