The news is definitely not good. Our good ol' boys in Washington have seen fit to sneak their Internet Gambling restrictions into the Port Security Bill at the last minute. The bill is expected to be signed by President Bush within days.

PartyPoker, 888, and Cryptologic have already announced their intention to stop allowing US players to access their casinos and poker rooms, starting tomorrow. I expect the entire industry to fall like dominoes over the next few days.

Thanks for nothin' Republican assholes. Now that you've wrecked an entire industry, you can all go back to seducing your senate page-boys. I know I for one will never cast another vote for a member of the GOP (Grand Ol' Pedophiles)

Land of the free? Hardly.

But Ken, if the GOP didn't legislate our morality, who would? We as citizens certainly are not capable of any such task! Yesh!

Mike I really do not think Morality is the concern. We are allowed to gamble in legal casinos where the goverment can tax it. Clearly internet gambling would be to difficult to tax. This is the land of the Free plus tax.

This is bad news for me. Internet gaming was just starting to become profitable for me. I will be watching to see how this plays out. Will there be any loopholes or ways around this bill?

Has there ever been a law passed by Congress that didn't have loopholes big enough to drive a space shuttle thru?

That is exactly what this is all about. Taxes plain and simple. Because they can't tax it no one can have it. Republicans have always been for freedom until somebody actually goes and uses it!

I guess there is something to all those ZenZone posts after all!

I'm wondering if this might have something to do with the changing demographics of Nevada.Lots of North-Easterners moving there and the gop needs all the friends they can get out there.

Thats the spirit! Vote Libertarian! zg
Actually, I was a member of the Libertarian party for a while back in the 90s. I agree with virtually their entire party platform.

When this law is signed by Bush, Internet gambling becomes another victimless crime. Their should be no such thing as a victimless crime.

Not necessarily victimless. The losing party is a victim, but of course it is self inflicted.

If they can ban internet gambling, then what about the lottery, stock market, etc. The lottery is a game of PURE CHANCE. At least with most forms of internet gambling their is an element of skill involved. So it doesn't make sense to ban internet gambling but keep the lottery. That's why I think TENNBEAR may be right, they are only going after it because they can't tax it.

Heck, even opening certain types of small businesses are a bigger gamble than playing basic strategy Blackjack! But of course if I were to tell my parents that I was opening a business, they would offer sage advice like, 'put your heart into it' but if I since I told them I play BJ with an advantage, they are totally worried.

I'm done with the Republican party, too. This is such a load of bullshit. What's the next thing I won't be allowed to do in my own home? :flame:

Q. What do you call a Libertarian with common sense?

A. A Republican!

I agree that the internet gambling ban has nothing to do with any party but it's all about taxation and control. They want to protect us from 98.5% slot machines online but not 91% slots in a casino. These phony Indian tribes with their casinos throw a lot of money around the political system (historically, mostly to Democrats) and it's not regulated in the same way as if CZR were to be throwing it around.

OK, Monkey. Sorry I didn't get your kidding. My sense of humor is on life support this week.

Back on topic, Bush signed the bill into law this afternoon. Online casinos who accept deposits from US players are now breaking the law.

Tour guides in Thailand that provide underage kids to US citizens are breaking the law as well, but it doesn't stop them.
I'm not trying to compare gambling to perverts, but if there is money and demand ,then the on-line casinos will either find a way to get around this law or simply flaunt it.
Has criminalizing pot stopped it?
Did criminalizing alcohal stop people from drinking?
Too much gloom and doom going on.
I'm too busy buying some great casino related stocks that are on sale bigtime to join the woe is me chorus.
