There is NO problem with declaring money going into or out of the US, and in my opinion it would be much safer to declare that you are carrying 10,000 than to not declare and have 9999. It is 10k per family, not per individual. This has nothing to do with taxes.

One caveat - if you declare money going into Canada, and they ask why you have so much cash - if you tell them you are going to the casino the customs people have been known to call the casino and tell them you are coming, and give your name and ID info to them.

Yes, that is no problem. Make sure when you leave the country you also declare it. Where did the money come from? I won it at the casino.

If you are flying domestic within the USA, you can travel with more than 10,000 dollars no problem.

Wiring to a casino is good too, but then you tell you the casino who you are.

unless you are wiring to casino A and playing without card at casino B

Traveling with cash

Chicchow, you say it is no problem traveling through airports with large sums. I'm curious to know how you do this? That has not been my experience. Unless they don't know I have it. I haven't had any confiscated yet, but I know some that have.

I don't mean to be a complete @$#@$#@$ but if you are thinking about moving enough money than I would think you already know about wiring money.

You can contact a casino directly to get their account information for you to wire the money from your bank. I am not as familiar with international outside USA to a USA bank, but within the USA a wire transfer should cost you around $25 (of course if could be less depending on what you have with the bank or who you bank with) from a US bank to a US bank.

Define large sum? I'm pretty sure that people take thousands / tens of thousands on their persons through the airport all the time to Vegas.

You have the money on you or in your carry-on / purse and so on.

Why is it any larger problem when traveling through the airport? Perhaps your ticket is to Vegas. Or maybe you have a receipt that day from the casino that you are returning from.

Carrying around large amounts of cash does have its own risks and potential issues, but I think that people are making it out to be a bigger thing than it really is

hi daniel27, so the time for LV has come? Good luck!

I see your questions are mostly answered already. You also asked whether you have to pay anything when you declare the cash. The answer is no. You will not have to pay any fees to customs, on your way in nor on your way out.

Yes, the disadvantage with wiring to the casino is that they will know who you are, which is one of the big things you want to avoid if possible. Also if you are wiring $20k they are likely to just give you markers to play against your deposit. i am not sure how happy they would be to give you cash so that you can then spend it at another casino.

Good luck for your trip! :) be sure to check out the 'Treasures' club - who will also happily take some of your hard-earned cash!

i don't know the answer. However if you decide that you will go with the wiring approach, why not ring the casino and ask them whether you would be able to take as much cash as you wanted to take to other casinos, or whether they would have any restrictions?

i did some wiring to the casino cage using debit and credit cards (i.e. i was already at the cage when initiating the transfer but this cost quite a bit in fees, from memory around $400) and they then just gave me all the cash (in total it was around $15k). I took it and walked out and they didn't say anything. But it would be good for you to check this beforehand. Certainly this approach has advantages over carrying $20k in cash.

i think i have a solution i will open a check account in dollars in my country , so i can use them in the casino for front money, then i will take the money to another casino , my problem is the return but i will declare the money and hope everything go well, i´m planning to do this in 2 or 3 casinos and play in the others, maybe it can be usefull for comps.
any ideas ?
how large was your bigger declaration for money in the airport?

If we are talking the realms of banded money, you could always

1) wire money to one casino.
2) play some at that casino with markers.
3) cash in some chips at that casino and take some of that cash to other casinos to play.
