Yes and cutting 2 decks off, not worth the bother.

Not really. The Meadow just uses a 8 deck discard tray. They play 4.75 decks out of 6 decks. The penetration is about 78% which is great. But it is SUPER TRICKY to estimate remaining decks because of the bigger size tray and the condition of the cards which could become fluffy. I have never seen they change the cards in the middle of the day. So I suspect they use a set of the cards for one day, not for one shift like in most casinos. The best way to deal with this is not to play right away and say you are waiting for the new shoe. In the end of a shoe, take a great look at the empty space in the discard tray. It is about 2 decks thick for new decks and 1.5 decks thick for well used fluffy decks. Use this information to adjust your estimation of remaining decks when you calculate true count.

6 decks but 8 deck tray? nice trick from rivers. can anyone else confirm this?
No, the Rivers use 8 decks on 8 deck tray. It is the Meadow that use 6 deck on 8 deck tray.

In general, I like the Rivers much better. In the Meadow, if you look intelligent, they immediately assign a floor person to check your skill. He will watch you from the distance, counting cards with you. If you flat bet first, the floor person just comes later when you bump up your bets. Super annoying.

From several recent experiences Meadows is clearly cutting two decks off. Maybe it just the dealers we have run into but if i recall correctly they use a slot in the 8 deck shoe. Maybe you're a better tipper. Like you I much prefer Rivers.
