after 2 losing trips to atlantic city this year, plus 9 trips last summer resulting in a net loss, I am convinced card counting is a bunch a crap. Anyone saying they make a living is just full of BS. The only people making any money are the people on here hawking books, classes and software products. You all are in on this too I presume. Shame on you

You're welcome. Please take some comfort in knowing that the next time I urinate, you'll have helped pay for the beer I'm recycling.

I may be inclined to agree with you. 8 straight losing sessions resulting in a net loss of $3900. The "funny" thing is I'm winning on the small bets and losing nearly every bet when I put out more than 2 units. And I used to win regularly before I took up counting, flat betting against CSMs. Go figure.

hmmmm, I guess I'm only limited to 10 emoticons as deemed by the admins. I'm gonna have to make a request to get that changed because I need about 100 emoticons to express the emotions I'm feeling right now.

Billy, thanks for the good laugh. you know, help is free. you can ask questions and read on this website FOR FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! but if you really think counting is just a bunch of crap, then okily dokily.

If little billybjkid has 5 apples and you take away one apple.......oh forget it, counting is a bunch of crap. 5-1 doesn't equal 4. IT EQUALS CRAP!!!

You both realize how insignificantly small your samples are, right?

By the way 21gun I'm on a streak losing more money than you at the moment yet I'm still up overall. Just seems we hit the streak at different times.

Maybe instead of complaining about how we lost on the internet we should be looking for ways to increase our advantage.

Thanks Billy the kid it's people like you who enable me to make money playing blackjack. If it were easy everybody would do it. My advise to you would be to stop playing, you probably just don't have what it takes to make it at blackjack. That's nothing to be ashamed of, some people just aren't cut out for advantage play and there is nothing wrong with that. My first guess is that you are not properly capitalized for the game and my second guess is that you just didn't do enough work to figure out what it takes to beat this game. You probably saw the movie "21" and thought this would be easy money!

Show me your stuff.

The REAL truth about advantage play is the simple fact that reading about and practicing a little will NOT give you the *right* to win at Blackjack. Just being able to count cards will not make you a winner. There is much more to "IT" than reading a book and counting. The fact is most people really don't have all the needed *skills*, *abilities* and *temperment* to be a successful Advantage Player.

I think the vast majority of people aren't cut out for serious advantage play. Few people have the discipline and emotional control necessary to ride out the wave of variance.

Losing $3900 is not a "small sample" for me, nor do i believe it would be a small sample for most people. Can you make money at Blackjack by counting cards? Absolutely, but you can also lose a small fortune.

Small sample in number of trials.. has nothing to do with money.

Did anyone ever claim that counting was an infaliable path to riches. I know I have never made that claim. A few days ago I swong 2000 units. 800 units down and 1200 units up. Blackjack is a game of extreme variance; especially the way I play it

800 units!!! holy crap! Yesterday I swung down 200 units and I was moaning about it. It was pretty fast too, down 200 in 1 hour, then I left up 60 in the next hour. This was a good DD game dealt 75% too. can you briefly describe your game? 800 units in one session? playing shoes or pitch?

I'm sure several others share the same sentiment . . . but I feel that Atlantic City is a pretty tough place to be really successful unless your game is really tight and you have great discipline and money management skills (see: kewljason)

. . . if you are mobile, try travelling to venues where there are a lot of pitch games . . . you may well see much better results!

Counting works, but works poorly unless you have a large bankroll and are spreading large enough to the point where your game is obvious to the casinos.

If you really want to make money, you need to add other tricks to your bag.

The only games I personally will attack with counting alone are a S17 doubledeck with 20 cards cut off and a 6 deck game with 90% pen and LS.

Attitude

No offense intended... but that really is the wrong attitude for the game. My brother once told me "Ya' know, if you're thinking of it as money while you're playing, then you probably shouldn't be playing"

I have found this statment to be true.

unit math

I agree daddybo, you can't think in terms of money or you are lost. A good game will yield so many units with proper play. Take away any of the positive variables and add bad play and emotion and you will lose. Too many aps fall by the wayside because of any of the above. You can play for toothpicks and amound a big pile after playing good. Introduce money as the unit and our attitude changes and so does alot of people's play.
