I would hope that Shoofly can be entitled to his opinion without confrontation
the same as 21, Nyne or any others can be entitled and respected for their stands on questions of right or wrong, morality etc.

You are all outstanding men, no need for what is beginning to appear as bickering match back and forth.

The same as some feel HCing is cheating, I think it is but I do it:eek::grin:, but I sure would not argue with others over it, live and let live, we are all friends here, so we shall act like it.:)

quite right you are Stealthy Won regarding those discussing these matters, imho.
AP stuff beyond counting, maybe even counting cards it's self, one finds one's self confronted by gray areas for which it's not always so easy to decide ones position.
but go at it like CP's tagline, with Strength & Honor and just me maybe it should all work out.
that said it is interesting to learn of the various perspectives people have to share regarding the gray areas.

Guess I'll chip in here since the topic has received much debate. Can we agree that the casino will almost always end up with the ploppies money in the long run...if not tonight, then next week or next month since we all agree that even basic strategy is a losing proposition in the long run? The ploppie is not likely to ever make a profit from playing blackjack, pure and simple. So the question is would you side with a player who has invented a way to intercept the money or with the casino which is guaranteed a profit? You indicate that you despise what casinos do to people, to which I agree. But whether you've realized it or not, the opinion your are expressing is favorable the casino. I'll agree that the ploppies may have a sacrificed a few minutes of their gambling fun away since they will run out of chips a little faster by accpeting my offer, but that is really the maximum extent of the damage. So, I am only hurting the casino with this practice - and for that effort I can live with myself just fine. I expect that I'll get the shoulder tap eventually if I'm not careful. That would make sense because the casinos will realize that what I've just said is true.

Exactly! Ploppies are going to lose their money one way or another. I'd rather that they give it to me if they're willing to do so than give it to the casino. More profit for less work. It's a win-win situation.

To me, that is not a reason. It is an excuse to justify your actions. I have read many posts by people on this and other boards by people who loathe the greedy, heartless casinos because they make fortunes by preying on vulnerable people. If you want to be like that, that's your business. I don't want to.

While I won't hesitate to express my opinion, I want to assure you and everyone that there is absolutely nothing personal in anything I post.

I have to agree with Shoofly in this one. One of the reasons I don't care about being an AP in a casino is because I'm taking money from a multi-billion dollar corporation and its shareholders whom I view for the most part as pretty well off. I'd have a harder time taking a ploppy's rent or mortgage money like casinos often do. Part of the thrill of AP for me is the entire David vs. Goliath.

I've never actually done this but I think it's a great idea and I will probably do it from now on. I've had ploppies, without even asking, just plop down money on my sidebet circle when they see I'm not going to play it. I usually just flick it back at them and tell them to quit invading my space. This way will be much better.

If you don't want to do it that's your business, but there's no reason for you to be judgemental of others. If you really feel that strongly then perhaps you should join a nunnery. ;)

If I came across as judgmental, I apologize. That was not my intent. Any arrangement made by you and another person that does not affect me or my play is none of my business. The purpose of my post was to explain what I would or would not do. I don't think a nunnery would consider me a qualified applicant.

stirring the pot

chief wolf zengrifter might bite my head off for this but such is life.
predator & prey is part of life, big fish eat little fish and yet by some sort of 'magic' (if you will), human life is able if it chooses to do so to transcend responsibility for the conundrum while at the same time taking advantage of it.
that said i'd agree with CP on what appears to be bickering but really isn't, but has the potential to become bickering, when really what it is when objectively and closely examined is an example of not talking about the same thing.

Definitely an opportunity

I never play the poker sidebet as the game I am playing pays better than the 3% HE of the sidebet, however, I have frequently received comments from other players and dealers that I seem to hit a poker hand often. Of course it is just their perception probably promoted by the fact that I am often one of the few players at the table not ever playing the side bet. Regardless, perception always matters. Therefore, players have frequently asked if they can play on my spot. Since there is no downside to allowing them, I always do with no preset conditions. I have had up to three players alternatng playing my spot and ocassionally two of them stacking on my spot at the same time. While I have never set any expectations about what should happen on a win, I have always received at least a one chip "tip" on every winner. I consider myself an honorable person, I have no qualms whatsoever about accepting the tip. But the EV in this situation is obviously very positive. The only downside I can think of is that every poker hand slows the game down and obviously fewer hands per hour is negative EV.

That is almost exactly how I do it. Until yesterday when two ploppies were discussing loudly the philosophy of the 3 card. If a player left during the shoe, somebody would hit the 3 card on the next hand, etc. Meanwhile, playing terrible blackjack (I never hit 16) and blaming me for a table loss because I hit A7 v. 10. I listened to this bluster for an hour, then had to leave to preserve my sanity.

I underwent the same scrutiny the other day. Ploppy not doubling on 11 and not hitting 16 shuns me for hitting A6 v 10! I was also shunned for hitting 12 v 2.
