Hey,
This is my first post on this forum. I have played extensively at Foxwoods, and a little at Mohegan Sun the past few months. Here is the deal:
Foxwoods
Foxwoods has an 8 deck game. Penetration averages about a deck and a half. It depends on the dealer. I have seen much more, and much less. I was there last weekend, and a dealer cut off about half a deck. I kid you not, I'm not exagerating.
During the day you will find $10, and $25 minimums, but most tables will be at $15 during the day. The later it gets the higher it gets. Say by like 5:00 there will be VERY few, if any $10 tables. Once you get into the evening they will be gone. Most tables will be $15 - $25 with no $10 tables remaining.
Weekends are much different. There will be some $15 tables, but once you get past 8:00pm, or so, it is mostly $25. Last Saturday night they had one $15, and one $10 table. Everything else was $25, or $50. Mostly $25. This past 4th of July they had one $15 table. Everything else was $25, and up.
MGM is different. They will almost always have $15 tables. They will have $10 on week days, and nights. I've been told they are struggling. Unless you go there on a weekend it is empty even when the regular Foxwoods is very busy.
Sunday is a good day to go. A good mix of $15 - $25 tables at Foxwoods.
Mohegan Sun
Mohegan has a six deck game with penetration so bad it will make you say "oh my god" out loud, and I'm not even religious. I have seen three decks cut off before. You need to see it to believe it, and this is in a six deck game!! Good pen at Mohegan is cutting off about two decks. It varies by dealer of course, but pen is terrible overall.
The only time I've seen $10 minimums at Mohegan would be before noon on a weekday. They are normally $15 during the day with some $25. The night of a big show forget about it. They'll all be $25 with maybe one or two $15 around, and this is during the week!!
Weekends will be $25. Maybe find one $15, but there will be such a crowd around you'll need to break down, and play the $25 minimums.
I prefer to play at Foxwoods. They have significantly more tables, lower minimums, they tolerate a large bet spread without a second look, and the dealers will even encourage you to split tens in some cases. You can't split tens at Mohegan ever.
The only problem at Foxwoods is the eight decks. It takes a while to get an advantage. I've back counted at Foxwoods, and jumped in playing a couple hundred dollars a hand, and never had a problem. I usually use a gradual spread of the table minimum to over $200 a hand in extreme positive situations.
I'd be happy to answer any other questions. I spend a LOT of time there!!!
