Yup, Iv always dismissed it but, today i accidentally stumbled on a very simple way to make it happen.

I was playing some blackjack and had some plopster freinds with me, and they decided to hit the craps pit.

We waltzed over together, and being the social person i was i decided to eat the negetive EV of 10 dollar mins on the donts, because i find it amusing to watch other peopel complain when i bet against them.

Now I wasnt surprised when i saw them making up superstition betting principals of when and when not to bet, but i was somewhat surprised to find...

They were also betting the dont pass, and they were doing it with large amounts of money on the base bet.

after listening to them bicker about which numbers they hate, the point rolled 8, and they both when NOOOOOOO!!!! I hate the 8, I wanna take it down.

I immediately grabbed their arms and said wait! Ill buy it, i only got ten bucks up, I need some more money in action ill help you if you help me out.

SO I bought a 50 and 100 dollar bet on the dont pass line after the point was established at 1:1 dollar for dollar.

And I continued to do this every time a 6 or 8 was rolled and they willingly agreed everytime.

No dice skills required.

WOW … I have never seen anyone so stupid that they would "take down" their odds on a DON'T bet.

Your VIG was HUGE indeed. 20% !

For those who do not fathom the arithmetic on this.

"Laying the odds" against 6 or 8 gives you odds of 6 to 5 in your favor.

With 9 or 5 the odds are a satisfying 3 to 2 and with 4 or 10 they are a ginormous 2 to 1.

FLASH,

Just curious, what do you mean by the vig being 20% on FnP's play? Thought I had missed something in the original post, but if he is buying the established Don't bets $ for $ this is a very solid no-vig all +EV play. You've bypassed the brutal come-out rolls and headed straight for the sweet spot.

As you noted above, he's got a even-money paying bet now and the percentages (6 to 5) are favorable. Laying odds at that point doesn't make much sense because you've got to pay for that 6 to 5.

Beautiful play FnP.

The VIG, the VIGORISH, the JUICE, the EDGE are all synonyms for the advantage that exists.

If he is able to purchase a $100 Don't Bet [on the 8] for $100 his expectation is to win
on the 6 rolls that sum to SEVEN and lose on the FIVE rolls that sum to 8.

The remaining 25 combinations of the dice have no effect on this bet. As such we are only concerned with 11 rolls. Six WIN and Five LOSE.

Thus our intrepid craps scavenger will win 6 rolls for every 5 bets lost.

Thus, after 11 rolls betting $100 each time he will have invested $1,100 and had
returned to him 6 winning bets (of $200 each) summing to $1,200 in total.

So … He wins $100. That is 10%, and not 20% that I had posted.

I was thinking of the ODDS bet on the "Donts" — THAT money indeed has a positive expectation of 20% for the eight.

NOTE:

  • The house FORBIDS you from taking down your PASS bet when a point has been established - because you are ALWAYS an UNDERDOG.
  • The house LOVES your taking down your DON'T PASS bet when a point has been established - because you are ALWAYS an FAVORITE.

I see ya, FLASH. FnP is extracting the vig FROM THE PLAYER who left the DP bet behind.

Not often that the player gets to squeeze a vig out of somebody in the casino ;)
