I sat down at a store and the pit boss asks me for my ID. I gave it to him and surprisingly, he wrote down my name, DOB, and some other info on a piece of card. Is that typical?

I have found through observation that people in the U.S. seem to give up personal info very easily, like ID, zip code, phone number, social security number etc.,,,like a bunch of sheep.:(

Would you recommend simply saying no and leaving?

Not typical. Sounds like he wanted to make you a players card almost.

Are you young?/Do you look young? If so, he may just be asking to verify you're of legal age to play. If that was the issue your choices are limited to turning it over or leaving the casino. However, you gave it up too easily without nary a fight. Next time leave your ID in the car. That way you can determine what the issue is before automatically turning it over.

I would not turn my ID over under any circumstance. It's obvious I'm way over legal age so the only thing that would require my ID would be a CTR and I wouldn't let myself get close to that threshold.

Leave his ID in the car? That is horrible advice. That could open a very ugly can of worms if he is playing, and the pit thinks he may be underage...

Hence why the question about age was asked. I have no worries about being carded for age verification so why would I need ID on me at the table? Why would it be "horrible" for me to leave my ID in the car? I have no reason to have it on me. There is no law that requires me to provide ID on demand except to law enforcement and the PB doesn't qualify in that regard. If you look like you are underage, that's a different story.......you will likely get ID'd by security when you walk in so you should have it on you if you want to get in the door.

If you read the OP.....he was asking if it was normal to have the PB ask for ID and then have the PB record his information down in writing. This implies that he wasn't just "verifying his age". If you want to turn over your ID that easily be my guest, but I won't give it to them so they can then BO/86 me AND THEN turn my info over to other stores. There's the "can of worms" that I don't want to open.:)

Yes, seen plenty of young people at the tables who don't have ID (left it in the room, don't have it on me, etc.,). Worst that happens is they kick you out. Heck you could have your ID on you and just lie, or show it at a good count, not show it at a bad count.

Many LV casinos offer a wristband scheme for players who look young. This way you only show your ID once at the security bureau. I believe the wristbands are good for all casinos.

I think this is something floor personnel do when they're suspicious of your intentions but want to find out more about you to be sure. The usual scenario goes like this for me:

"Did you have a player's card?" (Knowing full well I don't)
"No"
"Do you want one?"
"No, thanks"
"Are you sure? You can just give me your ID and I'd make one out for you"
"No, that's all right"
"All I'd need is your ID"
"Um, no"

I've never had anyone push beyond that, nor have I ever felt "forced" to give them my ID.

EDIT: Oh, Snorky, it's you. If you're playing where you used to play, it's because the pit become instantly very suspicious of players without player's cards. I've begun to think they're actually instructed to do so. I only get my ID checked at the entrance by the security guard (they're instructed to check anyone that "looks under 35"). But with a player's card, they don't care. Hiding in plain sight, so to speak. If you're not playing where you used to play, then disregard this edit.
