BOSTON - The winner of a $1 million lottery scratch ticket may not be so lucky after all: He's a convicted bank robber who isn't supposed to gamble. Timothy Elliott faces a Dec. 7 court hearing over whether he violated his probation when he bought the $10 ticket for the $800 Million Spectacular game at a supermarket in Hyannis.

Seriously, why would you buy a lottery ticket if you know you can’t win the money? That’s just dumb.

Not that ignorance of the law is an excuse, but he might not have known.

And if he did, the dumb thing wasn't buying it. The dumb thing was not giving it to someone else to cash for him. "Here's the ticket. Cash it and keep 15%". If the person tries to bugger off with more than their share, he can just go public about how HE bought the ticket. ALL the money gets confiscated and no one gets anything.

That attorney needs to go BACK to law school for sure ! THEY are a sovereign nation and you need to go through the BIA - bureau of indian affairs - and they will then direct you to the federal court where he can file. If he was cheating or something he is really screwed as that is a federal offense committed on an Indian reservation . Keep us posted :) ;) :cool2:
Actually it appears to be the Sandia casino which I believe has a class III compact with the State of New Mexico. There would be legal recourse through the state. If it's a class II (where the slot machines are "playing bingo") then the National Indian Gaming Commission would have jursdiction.

It must have been a malfunction or perceived cheat. The publicity value of paying a $1.6 million dollar winner would recoup within a matter of days, and continue to pay dividends in increased business for months to come.

Casinos like winners. They don't keep adding expensive hotels in Vegas because people can quit while they're ahead.
