Funny! All my ploppy friends tell me the same thing. I wonder who their consultant was? I wish stores were that naive.
Not so much the stores, but here in the UK a high proportion of the staff that work in them are.

Staff, yes, if you mean dealers and PCs, but surveillance should know better, and in fact, they do.

Where I play, I don't believe for one minute there's someone sitting in a room somewhere in front of a bank of TV's keeping watch on what's going on. Sure, it's likely the video machines are running (or whatever the digital equivalents are) but I suspect this is solely so that footage can be reviewed in arrears if it needs to be.

As to staff who are employed specifically to identify advantage players, I think not. Not when the rate of pay on offer for gaming floor staff is the bare national minimum wage (and it would be hard to justify paying the backroom security staff more). In the more upmarket casinos in London, who pay better and can afford the luxury of staffing a back room, possibly.

Rainman was about Las Vegas, NV, and more specifically, the Strip. Rest assured that there is someone the pit can call to watch and analyze your play in that location. They have many duties, not the least among them, to surveil employees for cheating. And if there is a larger "threat" occurring in a casino that is entertaining thousands, your play will not get a notice until the pit makes a call. How many screens, I don't know. My small hotel where I stayed had 28 screens; I know because security invited me in to see. It was just a hotel, with no other security issue than the safety of its residents. Imagine the far greater needs of a casino.

Not only did Rainman hit an 18, he hit an 18 when he KNEW there were going to be lots of "queens" coming out. One of the parts of the film that had me left going ?!?!?!?!?????? That movie should be a guide for what NOT to do at a casino if you're a card counter.

I think it was because Rainman didn't care about winning and losing. He was just focused on the numbers. He may have been playing a joke on Tom, because he did know that lots of tens were coming, or he may have just done it for the heck of it, being that he wasn't into winning money. I'm surprised he didn't blurt out, "But you told me that card counting is bad!"

Oh comon, what about the risky move of doubling your 10 against a 4 that Tom Cruise did! haha you'd definitely need to know the count's high to do that :joker:

Pretty poor consulting job, whoever it was. I can't believe a major picture studio would produce a movie with one of their top money earners without at least a small amount of expertise to ensure it roughly mirrored real life. But there you go! They didn't and it doesn't. OTOH, maybe they correctly assessed the fact that the general public doesn't know and doesn't care.

Yes, I've seen some pictures of he security rooms in LV casinos, and they do look as though more has been spent on them than on all of the furnishings on the main gaming floor where I play. A very different environment indeed. I've no doubt that when Mrs UK and I visit sin city, I'll be shown the door within about five minutes of spreading my first bet . . . .

Not only are they winning through a horrible playing strategy, the dealer gave them an extra black chip on one of the payouts. But then again I guess if you're rainman you wouldnt need that good of a strategy.

That's the nail on the head. If movies taught me anything it is that the 'indians' of the wild west were Italians, machine gun belts never run out nor the barrels need changing, and if you have a ten vs 4 only double with lots of Queens coming...

That's IF they taught me anything. Ignorance = Bliss
