I very much agree with Canceler. I hate dealers who think they know what I'm going to do. The other day I was playing heads up and had an A,8 vs a 6, and before I could even lift me hand to double she had already played her cards.... pissed me off. Dealers should always wait for a signal from the players. On the flip side, players should be quick with their decisions. It upsets me just as much to see players sitting their chatting or otherwise ignoring the game and slowing everything down.
You could have asked to double if you hadn't made a signal. I've called back hands to surrender a hard seventeen or make a weird soft double after not signaling and seeing the hole card.

I did have the intention of making these plays before seeing the hole card, though. Personally, I don't like to try to induce errors, although I will accept them.

yes there is something i would like to know. this may sound like nonsense and it probably is. i percieve the attitudes of various dealers as individual persons. most seem as if they are hoping for the players that things will turn out well for them. i know that a dealer has no way of consciously knowing whether the particular action a player is going to take is going to result in the hand being winner or loser for the player. also i know that a veteran dealer has seen thousands and thousands of hands played out and the results there of. i realize that some dealers are proficient blackjack players and others never play the game. so here is the point and question. i often wonder two things about the dealer. i wonder if subconsciously they may have a sense as to how a hand is going to turn out winner or loser for the player. i sometimes catch myself watching the dealer's mannerisms to see if i can catch a tell from their body language to see if they subconsciously perceive me comming out winner or loser. i've also noticed that often a dealer will be reaching for my chips even before she has seen my final card drawn or seen her final card. do dealers have a conscious sense of how the hand is going to go? what say ye Mr. or Ms. Walrus?

best regards,
mr fr0g :D
EXCUSE ME! i AM NO DEALER JUST A PLAYER FOR MANY YEARS. tHE ANSWER to your question is, the dealers after seeing and dealing those thousands of hands have a pretty good idea of whats coming, because its the idea {that the cards are falling right as expected }and no stupid extra 4 or 5 as i ran across in riverboat gambling in la.or there is not a quirk in the deal like all face cards etc, its called the litigo knowing the game so well you have a sense of what is ecpected to happen in the deal.
thus they maybe a little ahead of the table like you stated.you should be able to tell in a few deals if the cards are falling right if they dont seem to be get out NOW!

My experience has been that many dealers are so used to busting players' hands that they come to assume you're going to bust every time you hit a stiff, especially a 14, 15, or 16. This week I had a dealer who was young and fast, but continuously made a move to pick up busted hands prematurely, because the hands didn't really bust. He was too fast, assuming the usual result for 14s, 15s, and 16s, which bust about 57% on average.

I was on a cruise ship 2 months ago & it seemed like a convention of ploppies. All bj tables were CS ,so it made no difference to me how other players played. I doubled downed on a 5-5 against the dealers 9 , got a K . A oriental gentlemen beside me was clueless in BS asked me about the play . I told him I was trying to double my money. He had a H 19 & told the dealer He wanted to Do the same. BAM!! dealer hit his 19 with a 10 & took the poor guy's $50 . Player thought he could double his money by not taking a hit ,just put another chip up ... Really really screwed up. I questioned the dealer why he had not explained the play to the ploppie. I called the PT over to complain about the dealer. For the rest of the cruise I was very nasty to the dealer & told every one at the table what he had done in case anyone was thinking about tipping this guy. He had even laughed & thought it was funny as he was taking the poor guy's chips. At the end of the cruise I gave the dealer a poor rating & explained why. I guess what I am trying to convay to a dealer is good attitude is what will get you more tips & yes do give advise when a player is going to make a bad move. It would be a pleasure to play at your table. POGO
