Muggers beat up & robbed 3 patrons of $7,000, $5,000, and an undisclosed amount. 2 patrons were hurt badly and were sent to hospitals. The 3rd patron was knocked down on the elevator floor and also got kicked & beaten up by 2 muggers. Hmm... guys... don't leave home for AC without a pepper spray !

Cutting off your nose to spite your face...

Wow! So much for AC. The games have gone way down hill and now you can't even go to the bathroom without fear of getting mugged. AC's financial situation is bad and it seems to me they've made too many cuts in the security department in an attempt to save money. Walking the long stretches between casino's on the boardwalk is one thing but going to the bathroom and riding the elevator to your room or your car are quite another. It seems there is no reason to go to AC anymore. RIP AC...JtMM:cool:

Taxi's, casino shuttles and jitneys, in that order but if they're mugging people in the bathrooms and the elevator going to their room I question safety period. Traveling in a group is probably the best answer but working and keeping others entertained is sometimes difficult. AC isn't sounding too good anymore...JtMM:cool:

The key thing is be aware of your surroundings. If you fear the people near you, don't go into enclosed spaces like an elevator or in the bathroom. If you see someone following you, go into some safe place. Better yet, don't go to places like the Taj. Stick to the higher end casinos.

Hahaha, let's put it this way. The Taj is the murder capital of Atlantic City. In my experience, I would have to say that the Taj and Trump Plaza are the most dangerous casinos to go to followed by maybe Bally's, then Resorts, and Showboat for the top 5 crime infested casinos.

There is about 25 ft of boardwalk near entrance to Caesars that feels relatively safe during the day.

The north end of the boardwalk has become quite dangerous over the last few months. I've been going to AC about 4 times a year for past 10 or 12 years and it is scarier now than I ever remember seeing it. I stayed at Taj Mahal a few weeks ago and never really felt safe, day or night, outside or in and I am a pretty big, menacing looking guy. And then on top of it, as if the crappy games, and constant presence of aggressive hookers and muggers isn't enough........I saw a mouse run right across top of a bank of video poker machines one night.

That's pretty funny, a rodent infestation suits those stores well.

Most of the security problems I've run into in AC have involved the extreme ends of the Boardwalk, I would suspect it's due to their proximity to the non-casino areas of town that are not as heavily patrolled. The Boardwalk near the Taj Mahal also has an area that is not well lit and is usually harboring some dirtbags. Another funny thing is the indoor walkway between Showboat and Taj Mahal- there are a few feet of it that are not exposed to any cameras and you will often find a bum living there.

As disturbing as some of these stories are it isn't that fearsome an environment for an AP who uses good judgment. Just avoiding: drugs, whores, hustles, and socializing with non-AP's will preempt a lot of troubles. So many people end up being victimized in the course of getting involved with something stupid. Also walk quickly and deliberately and be aware of where you are parked.

Another thing I thought about, and this applies to me, is that some of us use alcohol and pretend to be drunk when playing, and appearing to be drunk and carrying a lot of money is a good way to make yourself a target. This is something I should probably modify when in AC.

In case you weren't aware, Taj, Resorts, and Showboat are all connected via above-ground, indoor walkways. That will save you some of the outdoor BW walking if going from the north end to mid-BW.

There's a walkway from Taj to Resorts?
Yes, it upstairs in the convention room area. It is not as obvious as the walkway to showboat. There is no sign or anything. It is at the end of hallway near the Safari Steakhouse, kind of looks like you are walking through a service door that you aren't supposed to. It takes you into Resorts near the theater and upstairs restaurants.

Compared To Vegas

Heard and read that Vegas - whose casinos were started by Mafia, was indeed protected by the mafia not to scare away tourists. Probably mafia should take over AC as well.

So to go casino to casino, it's still best to just head out the door and cross the street. Thanks.
