Southpaw finally got his feet wet ...

Today, some fellow AP's took me out to a local for my first day of real action.

I had the opportunity to make quite a few basic strategy departures including two instances where I had a 12, a non-basic strategy hard doubling situation, and the infamous 10 splitting situation. Although it was not a basic strategy departure, I also got the opportunity to hit A,7 vs. a dealer high card to win the hand. I might also add that I encountered an incredibly hot shoe. Just amazing how hot this shoe was ...

After "talking it over" with the dealer, I decided not to split the tens, since just talking about splitting them seemed to irritate the dealer quite a bit. He said, "If you want to throw your money away like that I can point you to the nearest strip club." Being very young, I had this dealer really thinking that I was stupid, after inquiring his opinion on what to do with a 17 v. 10 and other instances where I had 12 / 13 v. a low card. Before inquiring about splitting my tens, I feigned about not knowing whether it was allowed to split tens that were not the same (i.e., a 10 and a queen). Didn't tip this jerk. He actually asked me why I bothered to buy 50 cent chips when I was cashing out if I wasn't going to use (tip with) them. Also overheard him poking fun about me after I had wonged-out of a negative shoe one time as well.

Edit: With regard to splitting tens, the dealer also said, "Let me ask you a question. If you had a twenty inch ****, would you chop half of it off?"

I, however, did place a 50 cent bet on each of my two hands for a different dealer after she cheated for me. Though I won't transpire exactly what she did, she essentially paid me some money when she should have been taking money. I can tell you she did it on purpose by the giant smile she gave me as she did it. I immediately glanced over to a fellow AP who had seen it as well. Probably had something to do with the fact that when the "jerk" dealer got his break, he introduced me to the new, female dealer as the new kid that he'd been helping out ... lol. Jokes on him.

I ended up leaving after only an 1hr and 20min of play because I was already up over 30 units and I "thought" I was getting some heat. What made me "think" that I was about to get tossed out was that after the shoe that was on fire ended (also the one where I made a few departures and had hinted about splitting tens), I turned around to see this big, mean-looking, ugly-dude in a suit (I'm pretty sure this is what he was wearing. If not, it was some other attire that looked professional) who had a cop hair cut. He was breathing down my neck. I smiled at him. He then immediately asks me, "Did you split tens?" I think to myself, "Great, this is probably some pit critter that is on my case already on my first day of play." I told him no and gave him a lengthy, bullcrap, ploppy explanation as to why I didn't do it.

I cashed out after this. It was later confirmed by another AP on the forum that this "suit" was actually a player. So, unfortunately, I had misjudged the situation and left the casino prematurely.

All in all, it was a pretty good experience. Especially, the part about getting lucky as hell at the tables and cashing out over thirty units ahead. I love when short-term variance is on your side. In fact, my expected win-rate under those conditions and the betting strategy I was using is only about $10 / hour, assuming 100 hands / hour. I highly doubt I was getting 100 hands / hour as the "jerk" dealer was very slow with the cards in my opinion. The female dealer was a little better.

With my new saving plan and this nice victory, my total bankroll is a bit over 2600 now and I have a paycheck for a month of work on the way very soon. I calculate that I'm now able to save more like 300-350 per month, rather than 200 per month now that I've eliminated a ton of wasteful spending.

Nice job Southpaw

Always great to book a win, especially on your first outing.

Sounds like you had many opportunities to use what you've studied. ;)

Good luck on the next trip.

If the dealer had a 5 up, a good comeback would be "I could, it would still be twice as big as your 5."
