Backoff question

So the casino manager invites you to the backroom, asks you not to play anymore when you decline, and has security escort you out of the casino. The casino already has your name, address, photo copy of your driver's licence, and tons of surveilance footage because they "have been watching you for a while."

Why do they send a security guard to collect the plate number off your vehicle? How is that information useful to them?

Perhaps to see if you ID corresponds to the ID of the plate. Speaking of which, how and why do casinos have the right to access to a motor vehicle database? Can any privately-owned company request information like that on a vehicle in their parking lot?

jim, I hope this is just a theoretical question for you :)

I would surmise that it could be a minor countermeasure against players coming back using alternate IDs. (but to be truly effective, they'd have to be scanning plates when entering, which would be unrealistic). It might also work to detect team play. You know, in case of carpools.

In my case, the license plate will come back to "Alamo Rent-A-Car" and good luck finding any more information than that.

Could be to see if you are with anyone else.
I had an off-duty cop working for me on parking lot security and he decided to run the plates of a couple of hot girls. He soon found himself in a heap of trouble.

I ran through a tollway ez-tag in a rental car. One month later, I got a letter in the mail from the toll authority with a photo of me running the tollway and a bill. So that's not completely impossible to track down.

In those cases they contact the rental car co. for the info. I'd imagine it's a fairly common occurrence.

maybe just to scare the piss out of you.

I might have walked across the street first, had a cup of coffee, then stroll back to the car.

MDLBJ might be able to comment on availability on personal info derived from motor vehicle lic. plates on the internet.

 I have to ask? What compelled you to do this? Did you pay the fee?

I *thought* that my borrowed ez tag from a relative would work. It didn't.

And yes, I paid it. One time I thought I could skate by dodging tickets and fines (parking tickets in this case), nearly resulted in my car being towed.

Except for one time when I parked in one of those self-service parking lots, put my money into the slot, and still got a ticket on my car, with a SASE envelope to send back to the parking people. I wrote a letter explaining how I had paid the fare, and that the company could stick it, and returned it to them in their payment envelope.

In hindsight, I could have ran laterally through the rows of parked cars until I lost the tail, but I was more concerned about getting into the car and locking the door at the time. If I hadn't read Barfarkel's book, I would have been shiting my pants.

No comment on that Brutus yet, I did have my car towed from a casino lot in Washington state and it cost me a hell of a lot to get it back.

I think if the guy did not have a players card, the casino was trying to get some personal info on him for a file or to see if he is know by any other local or national casinos. Or it could be as simple as a SOP that they do not know how to use.

On the other hand, the day after I received my B#^$% slap from the casino, I returned to make back the amount I had to pay to the tribal police.

Sounds like you hit their bottom line pretty good JB, you got to watch that with the small to mid sized joints.

I just overplayed the place and was very well known there. I'm small time though. I just checked my records and I won almost $3000 there over the last 30 months. All of it redistributed to other casinos of course.
