(Almost) Hustled in PA

#1
My friend (female) and I were semi hustled today at Mt. Airy in PA. This was the first time it had happened to me. It was a group of 3 guys who were trying to back bet us, and just being extremely rude and annoying. They were yelling at her for not doubling down as often as they would like, even though she was betting 100-200/hand. Finally, the Pit Boss removed them from the area. We were worried enough (We both won a fair share ~2-3k each), we asked for an escort out to my car. They actually sent two security guards with us, and when we left the property, an actual PA State Trooper escorted us back to the NJ border, a bit overkill, but extremely assuring.

I seem to be missing the part where you were hustled.

Just heard a recent story from someone about that place, where there was a player betting black at a low limit table. He was being propositioned and bothered by, how do I say this, a large African American female who was likely a prostitute. Everyone at the table was uncomfortable, although the black chip player might not have been ;)

I don't get it. Are you saying the three guys thinking your female friend is a prostitute?

Hope you remembered to toke the security guards. :)

Guess you haven't heard any of the NUMEROUS stories about gamblers having their winnings "confiscated" by the cops; claiming that it's "drug money". I'd have been much more worried about THIS guy than those other three guys, who from the sound of it, were merely having fun. Although yes; they DID get out of line - probably too much of that free alcohol. I'm thinking that it's pretty doubtful that someone who has the intention of robbing you would attract that much attention to himself first. (But then again, criminals HAVE been known to pull some pretty dumb stunts!)

Sunday, March 27, 2011:

MOUNT POCONO - State police are seeking a suspect in a recent strong-arm robbery reported at Mount Airy Casino Resort.

"Wladyslawa Kata, 52, of East Stroudsburg, was treated at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg, after the March 19 assault, state police at Swiftwater reported.

The woman left the Paradise Twp. casino for her car at about 2:30 a.m., when the suspect knocked her to the ground and fled with her purse, according to police.

Police said the suspect is a white Hispanic male or light-skinned black man, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. He had two diamond-stud earrings and wore a navy-colored coat and a winter hat with a white stripe, police reported."

Definitely worth using valet parking. I'm 6'2", 205 lbs. and usually travel with my son, 6'3", 210 lbs., and we can handle ourselves, but still don't feel safe after dark in that are because of local knowledge of the element frequenting the surrounding area.

Stated it Before

Don't have any large chips on the table, keep them in your hand or pocket them.

Small buy in as needed if playing unrated.

if playing rated just buy in for enough to get the pit's attention. This will be a different amount depending on the casino, three hundred should work.

One can make eye contact with pit, then a slight eye motion or nod in the direction of the problem will generally be hint enough for the pit to run them off without implicating you

Don't flash cash, only pull out small amounts from your pocket/purse

The pit is usually happy to rid remove ne'er-do-wells.

I recall playing in a HL pit in AC when some annoying guy was cheering on the players, giving advice, etc. I asked the pit if they knew the guy and they said no. I then asked that he be removed from the area and he was.

In A.C.; they're NOT allowed to run off the "chip hustlers" UNLESS - as in your case - a customer complains. And, as you mention; the pit is more than happy to accommodate. You probably gained some valuable "brownie points" with the pit by making this complaint.

21, I've experienced that frequently in AC; more than in other locations, and if the pit doesn't have them removed and you color up to leave, they'll ask you for a duke because they were your "good luck charm".

I just ignore them or tell them we're even from what I lost the night before because they didn't show.

One time, I was at the Roman Emperors in AC, walking by a new shoe and nothing but small cards came out for several rounds. I jumped in at 400x2 and won almost 10K that shoe. Seemed like I couldn't lose a hand and a small crowd gathered. I got up at the end of the shoe and was immediately hit up for small chips by my "good luck charms." The other funny thing that happened was a bunch of people were fighting to sit in my lucky chair.

You guys live in a different world than I do. Detroit is not even near that bad.

After the shuffle ? You should have auctioned it off, and tip half of that for the dealer not shuffling up inbetween. :)

That's because unlike A.C., in Detroit; security IS allowed to, and WILL bar the chip hustlers long BEFORE they become a problem. As I mentioned in an earlier post; in A.C. the casinos CANNOT kick them out unless a customer complains.

I guess there IS some downside to Atlantic City not being able to indiscriminately bar people.

I have been hustled for winning big at Parx. Someone followed me from table to table, not playing and just watching me win and he saw how much cash I had in my wallet. I felt unsafe walking through the parking lot at night with my winnings. I left because I was feeling some heat from the pit boss, but I asked for a security escort to my car. That was the only time I ever did so. Now that I think of it, I think that "heat" was the pit boss watching the hustler to make sure he doesn't steal anything.

I feel like it was overkill for PA cops to escort you to the NJ border, unless you won a huge slot jackpot or something. What's to stop a potential carjacker from robbing you in NJ if he was following you?
