$5 Blackjack Payout ?

Newby here and going to a casino cruise that has a $5 min bet (s17, ds, ls). I was going to use $5 dollar amounts till I'm comfortable betting bigger.

I'm curious what would be the payout on a $5 bet if I hit blackjack with payout 3:2 (8,7.50,7)? If it's a $7 payout, how much does the house edge increase?

Also, I suppose I can't "ls" on a 5 dollar bet?

Sure, you can surrender a $5 bet, and you'll get back $2.50.

Blackjack on a $5 bet will pay $7.50.
I had never heard of a game where blackjack pays 7:5, but one was recently reported somewhere. (Denmark maybe? Can't remember for sure.)

If a casino does pay 7:5 on blackjack, that adds about 0.45% to the house edge in a 6-deck game.

Payoff options

Casinos that have $5 tables will have rolls of .50 coins in the rack or even $2.50 chips to make that $7.50 payoff.

Thanks Ken for the answer to a question I asked a while back on another thread. Now I can tell my friend that a 7:5 BJ game is no quite as bad as the dreded 6:5, but still an uphill fight. You think it can be beaten with decent rules and PEN?

For your friend, a great BJ game is an uphill battle. Yes, 6:5 can be beat with good pene and a 1-12+ spread. 7:5 would be a little easier. zg

For all the screen space and discussions re: 6:5 BJ and the 1.4%+ disadvantage. I assumed that 6:5 was an absolute no go. Now you say that it is beatable, at least in theory, but in the real world what would the other parameters need to be? i.e. #decks, PEN. split/DD rules etc.? Could we really run across such a table?

1D/80%/h17 crap rules - maybe 1-10 wonging or 1-20+ play-all. Its a little worse than superFun21. Or 6:5 is a great game if you can see dealers hole-card. zg

Sounds like you would catch real heat with a l-10+ spread on 1D, so I guess 2D would be out of the question. BTW you know you don't really need to see the dealer's hole card, just buy the RV tape!

When you RV it is just as good as seeing the dealer's hole card! My friend told me he guessed two cards in a row out of 6 decks! He then later told me it took him about 100 tries, but he eventually got it. A perfect example of RV!

Is that perhaps with a big spread, you can get an edge (slight) on a 6/5 game but it is not even close to worth the effort and the spread will cause high variance.

If your act is good enough, or the casino is dense enough, where you can get away with a 10-1 or even 20-1 spread on a single deck game, you can make much more money in their 3/2 single deck or shoe games without the same effort.

He did, in fact, mention my single requisite for playing 6/5. Can I see the dealers hole card? Otherwise, there is always something better to play.

The proper pay out for a $5 bet on a blackjack is $7.50! Anything less is not acceptable. blackjacks pay 3:2 or you walk! If the blackjack pays out $6 on a $5 bet you are sucker.
