Yesterday there was a Vegas marathon on the Travel Channel were they had lots of shows about comps, best games to play, worst games, etc...

Anyway at the end of one of the shows Anthony Curtis and Max Rubin start arguing over how an "average" gambler who comes to Vegas for fun should play.

Curtis said they should play games with low house edges and avoid sucker bets, while Rubin said in the short term it doesn't matter so they should just have fun and do whatever they want.

They then had a "challenge" where they both had $25 to use on each game (Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Slots, Video Poker and Baccarat) to see who could make the most (or lose the least).

Curtis played things like the pass line, Red/Black in Roulette, and Video Poker. Rubin played things like "Yo" bets, the Tie Bet in Baccarat, and some crazy 8-line deuces wild.

Curtis walked away with $65 or something around that due to his leaving games when he was down a lot and winning around $40 in Craps on the pass line w/odds.

Rubin lost the $25 in every single game except at the very end he won $80 playing Deuces Wild so he won the challenge.

I thought it was interesting!

Ahh, yes. The circa 2000-2003 Vegas programming marathon on Travel Channel. There was a time when those 5 or 6 shows would get the juices flowing for Vegas trips...now they are nearly humorous.

Coupon runs with Anthony Curtis, trips to the Westward Ho for a huge hot dog, inside the Aladdin casino, etc. Maybe some day they will film a new one from this decade.

I saw an episode of "Only in America" last night with Larry the Cable Guy where he visits the Eye in the Sky room of a casino in Las Vegas.

Throughout the segment "Card counters" and "post betters" are mentioned in basically the breath as cheaters, scumbags and those to be caught. OF course then the show focuses on the "post betters", but the impression left is that "card counters" should be filed in the same category. As it is said cheating at a game is a felony in Vegas that will land you in prison.

Keep in mind they never said card counting was cheating. Nor did they say card counting was a felony. They said they looked for card counters. But the presentation to the casual viewer would lead one to believe that card counting was the came as post betting.

I caught all three shows, Dye. Had seen all three at previously at one time or another, but was still interesting even if somewhat outdated. Curtis talked about a lot of coupon deals and casino 'rag' sheets that no longer exist, unforetunately. I did get a glimpse of the old Key Largo casino, which I recently posted about on the other site. I walk by it sitting there all boarded up a number of times each month on my way to Terribles for the great breakfast special. I really was wondering what kind of place that was. (obviouly a local type place) and then presto, I get to see it in action on the travel channel.
