More evidence that all casinos should offer Surrender

Recently at the tables and I surrendered a 16 v 10. Guy at the other end of the table asked what I did, as he'd never seen that before. Dealer explained you get half your bet back if you don't like your cards.

Let the carnage begin - here's what he surrendered the next few hands:
13 v 8
12 v 7
12 v 10
At that point, dealer said it's probably not a good idea to surrender anything but a 15 or 16 v 9-A. I kept quiet.

I agree. A great benefit for us and with the stupid surrenders I have seen from the ploppy contingent it would add oodles to the coffers of any casino.

A general AP "tell" is knowing how to use surrender. You might want to surrender that 15 against a 9 or ace even when you shouldn't every once in a while, or not surrender that 16 against a ten occasionally in a negative count.

If I opened a casino the first rule I would implement would be surrender!
"You know it's a great weekend when you see a friend get backed off a CSM and then you get 86'd and escorted out of a casino arcade."

Yikes! If they throw you out of the arcade they probably think you're a chi-mo or something.

Surrender is such a great rule for everyone. They could offer multi-card surrender and it would be better still, for everyone.

When I do find a game with surrender, and there are a number of them in Vegas, I need to tie a string around my finger to remind me. I wonder how many surrender opportunities I have missed due to force of habit? It's a great rule, and everyone should have it. It's good for the casinos, and it's good for the APs.

I love it when I surrender a 17 vs A and the player to my left gets mad at me for changing the flow of cards!
What is the index for surrendering a 17 against an ace?

For H17 LS when TC<2.

I did it twice in one shoe this week and the dealer questioned me both times (was playing heads up).
Thanks. Are there any other unusual surrenders. I have only been doing the usual 16, 15, and 14 surrenders, for example, 14 at +4 against a dealer 10 or ace. My gut wants me surrender almost every stiff at +4, but I don't do it, and it has worked out pretty well.

Not really. Most of them are pretty intuitive and deal with really positive counts. The 17 vs A has been the right call probably 80-90% of the time when I've used it.

I love the inquiry, "But Sir, you have 17 "
"Yes, I know, it's a lousy hand"

I've had the same experience as Paddy.

BTW, glad I started that 16v7 LS thread. Had another 16v7 in a monster count a few days ago at a non-LS game and knew that the stay index was +9.

Mentioned in another post, somebody surrender 5 v 6

I assume the index for that is -1000 or an imaginary number, like sqrt(-1), or maybe he was counting all the cards in the deck, and there were only 5's remaining.
