Getting sarcastic remarks thrown at you for not tipping

I was at a poker room just annihilating the $2/5 no limit table, and the more you win the more pressure there seems to be to tip.

I've decided to only tip on very rare occasions. I got some sarcastic sounding remarks from some of the dealers and waitresses such as "Thanks a lot" in a obviously snobbish tone. I only tipped $2 the whole night and I don't feel the slightest bit of guilt over it.

This piece of ass blonde waitress who probably accumilates $500 a night in tips from men was the nastiest to me. She just gave me a snobbish look and just ignored me after I didn't tip her the first time.

Call me a cheapo, but I don't believe in tips. If I tipped for every single pot I won that night, and for every single water and tea, that'd be over $100. That's one hour of play down the drain - and what if I wasn't having a massively positive variance night and got bad beated all night long, would they still expect me to tip them? The rake alone got me for over $200.

Why bother calling you cheap. You already know it. I hope you are only ordering stuff that comes in a sealed bottle if you are stiffing the cocktail waitress.

If you don't tip the cocktail waitress you should expect this behavior. You are getting free drinks, no? coffee, water, tea? I always tip the waitress but don't view it as a tip but as me purchasing my drinks to keep me hydrated. If I don't want "buy" those drinks at the table then I bring them with me having bought them before I go to tables.

When I was in college I served drinks at ball park for summer job and if a guy didn't tip then I ignored his calls for drinks. If I wanted to make any money I had to hustle for the best tippers so I just let one of the other guys serve the non-tippers. I'm not judging your decision here...it eats into your EV, I know.....just saying that you shouldn't be surprised that you will get poor service if you don't tip the waitress and Shad is right, you better be ordering drinks in a sealed bottle or they may be giving you a special "tip".

If you want to be a jerk; that's YOUR business. But why are you telling this to US? Unless you ENJOY sarcasm.

$100 in tips for one night? How much of a tip do you think these people expect? The PROPER tip size for a cocktail waitress is $1; for a poker dealer it's $1 for a normal sized pot, MAYBE $2 for a humungous pot (even THIS is optional);and for a pot under $20 to tip or not to tip is optional. I might tip every OTHER pot or every THIRD pot when I'm picking up the blinds.

If you're properly tipping and your tips come to $100 in a night; you are playing way; way too many pots! You're better off playing slots than you are poker!

BTW; at the rate YOU tip - in addition to problems with your drinks, don't be too surprised if one of the players sitting next to the dealer always "happens" to make his flush on the river!

If I am not tipping and get a sarcastic "thank you" when I leave I accept it. I deserve it. I understand where they are coming from. I really feel bad leaving an average to friendly dealer without tipping. It is a weakness of mine, I have tipped about 7% of my income this year.

What I hate is when I get a sarcastic "thank you" after leaving a tip I consider reasonable or even excessive. This has happened to me too many times. Vegas dealers are the worst in my experience.

So now I tip nothing or an amount I know will be appreciated. Usually this means stiffing in Vegas and leaving bigger tips in smaller markets. I also find myself stiffing after big wins and tipping an amount that seems appropriate (from their prospective) after smaller wins. My favorite thing to do is stiff a dealer that gives me any reason. Not friendly? Thanks for saving me money. Want to suggest that I should be tipping 5 minutes into a winning session? Awesome! Now you get to watch me tip the drink waitress a 5er, while you get stiffed.

Once I realized I accidentally only tipped the waitress $.40 for my hot chocolate so literally went and found her to give her a better tip.

These girls (and guys I guess) live on tips so don't be an asshole.

This is good advice. I know someone who got a funny tasting drink after not tipping.

And your point is???? If you don't want to tip then don't tip but don't get p*ssed off because the waitress doesn't like you for not tipping. That is the price you pay for not tipping her. You have decided that it's worth the price because you are more concerned with your EV than paying for her service. Nothing wrong with that but don't complain about how she then treats you. Waitresses will treat you about as well as you treat them.

money you don't lose buys just as much as money you win
But when the waitress brings you a complimentary beverage, tip her. Otherwise, bring your own water with you. It's $1, so man up and pay for the service.

Bad service is one thing, and dealer tokes are arguably another, but we're talking about something entirely different with waitstaff.

Do you know how much the piece of ass waitresses make at casinos? It wouldn't be a shocker that they make at least $500 a night from kindly white knights, and they make a salary in addition to that. Then she goes home and probably has a boyfriend who further lavishes her.

If you're so generous, why not donate the tip money to homeless veterans?

I'm pretty sure these drink princesses aren't barely making ends meet.
How much do you make? If it is more than $500 a night you should think she is under paid. That is unless you are some elitist a**hole.

Ummm $500 (in addition to a salary) a shift for serving drinks is under paid?

Why didn't I have that job option when I was in my late teens/early 20's?

A lot of educated professionals don't make that much.

I'm elitist because I don't believe in automatic wealth distribution based on lookism?

What does this have to do with the topic at hand? A modest tip to a cocktail waitress and charity are not necessarily one in the same.

I'm not talking about being generous...$1 for someone bringing you a drink is minimum. Again, barring bad service, anything less than that just shows your ass. And I think you've proven your point well.

MY point is an elitist thinks that his contribution to a group effort deserves the lion's share. The irony is the lowest paying jobs are jobs that are so hard he couldn't even do them. You didn't have that job option when you were that age because the equivalent wage was about $50 per night a long time ago. Bartenders and servers earned a lot more than that when I was young. Those opportunities were there if you worked hard and didn't rely on the group average to set your wage. If you prove yourself to a good employer he will pay you your worth to keep you. He is not worried the other workers will find out because the reason is you earn it by outperforming them. This gives them incentives to be a better employee.

My comment had nothing to do with the servers appearance at all. Try doing the waitress job for a week. I doubt you would last. Your feet would be killing you your arm would ache. I doubt you ever had a job that required you to be on your feet the whole time. It definitely has cumulative affect on you.

I'm saying I didn't have the job option of "piece of ass waitressing". I could have been a waiter right out of high school, but I sure as **** wouldn't have made even 1/5 of what these cocktail waitresses pull down no matter how good my "waitering skills" were.

And no, the physical aspect of waitering wouldn't bother me as i'm an army veteran. Try being on your feet for 10+ hrs carrying 80 lbs of body armor, gear, and weaponry.

So you are familiar with what standing and walking on hard floors for hours on end do to your feet longterm. Your feet were designed to walk on earth not hard floors.
