Boulder Strip

I am just curious as to whether any of you have played or like the Boulder Strip at all. I went once on my first trip out, three times on my last trip; and I'm staying there this time. Sam's Town is my favorite; but I also enjoyed Arizona Charlie's.

For those who don't know it, the Boulder Strip is a few miles outside of the main city of Las Vegas, on the Boulder Highway. The casinos are more "locals" joints, although they do get a fair number of tourists too. THey don't have the glitz and over-the-top nature of the strip resorts; but they don't have the seediness of downtown either. I have found the rules to be a cross between downtown and the strip, somewhere in the middle there, with the minimums being similar to downtown. I also think they are easier with comps than some of the other places I have been.

I'll let you know when I get back how I liked Sam's Town as a place to stay. It seems very nice from the times I have played there. They have several restaurants, ranging from a McDonalds to a very nice and expensive Italian place. They have what is suposed to be a very good buffet; and they have a little cafe that I was comped to last time I played there. In addition to the casino, they have a couple of theatres for live shows, a movie theatre, a bowling alley, and a beatutiful indoor winter garden.

They also provide a free shuttle bus to and from downtown and to and from the strip. The bus runs 6-8 times a day on a set schedule. If you take a cab out there, it will run almost $20. If you have a car, parking is free.

I got an offer for two free nights in the hotel; and my other two are at a discounted rate. So we're headed out there in a little over a week. I plan to play a decent amount at Sam's Town, and to carefully plan out trips to the strip and downtown each day as well. I'd like to play about 30-40 hours on the trip.
