Has anyone stayed at this hotel/casino?

I need to spend a couple days going through Vegas and their room rate is incredible. Ratings are decent but I wanted to see if anyone here had actually stayed in this hotel.

TIA!

The Plaza reopened weeks ago after a massive renovation. They gutted the old hotel and casino and replaced it with furniture and fixings that were originally bought for the now defunct Fountailbleau.
I wouldn't put any credence into anything people say about the old Plaza as this is really a new Plaza, except for the walls. Even the elevators have been updated.
Google Las Vegas Advisor for a few reviews from some guests at the new place. They are mostly pretty good. One guy complained about his room but he complains about everything.
Its a great location if you want to be downtown. If you are the type to try to go to sleep before midnite, ask for a room facing the back to avoid the lights and sounds of the Fremont light show.

Julie,

I'll be curious to hear what you think of the place, especially the renovation to the casino, game quality, etc.

Have a good trip.

Julie,

Looking forward to hearing about the rooms.

Chef,

The casino is pretty clean - for now. The typical DTLV clientele is still there, so I expect it to fall back inline with its downtown compatriots - sans GN - eventually. I didn't play any BJ, but I jumped on their new player promo via VP. It's a fantastic low roller program that yields around a 7% edge with the right game selection and quitting point. Details are posted on their website.

There are two new restaurants inside. Hash House a Go Go and a Hawaiian/Sushi place. The sushi place is decent, but a bit overpriced given the quality of the fish. I didn't eat at HHaGG, but I've been to other locations. Huge portions, and damn good.

Is Hask House related to Omelet House? I had heard that Omelet House had opened at the Plaza. Curious.

I don't think so. I'm not familiar with Omelet House, but I can tell you there are HHaGG locations at Harrah's Reno and the LV IP. Obviously, the opening of the IP location boosted the property's number of desirable eateries from 0 to 1.

Omelet House has these breakfast fries that are cut thin and round like potato chips. On of my favorite Vegas breakfast places. But HHaGG sounds good, too.

Some of that Fountainebleau furniture also supposedly went to the Sands in PA.

Does Plaza still have it's bingo game? Went there once with friends who live in Vegas.

I've had great eating experiences (servers were a bit spacey) at the HHaGG in IP, so hopefully the Plaza location will have the same kitchen production.

Thanks for the Plaza promo tip, darco, hope to hit it up in a few weeks.

HHaGG is worth checking out. A standard breakfast comes with enough food to feed two, and the Bloody Mary is garnished with, among other things, a slice of crispy bacon.

Didn't see a bingo room at the Plaza, although I wasn't looking for one either.

I've only been to the Harrah's Reno location of Hash House A Go Go, and I didn't like it. I'd say only go there if you're looking for piles of starchy food, and everything else pretty bland. My enormous plate arrived covered with a layer of about five pounds of mashed potatoes, and the rest of the food stacked on top. The slice of fried polenta was so thick that it came out really gloppy. The place is also pretty expensive. So only consider going if you're with a friend, and then split an order. Anything on the menu will be plenty big enough for two.

Also, I can't speak for any other location, but the service at Harrah's Reno was very much on the vague side. My waiter seemed to have a short term memory loss problem. It's rare for me, but on this occasion I was motivated to leave a conspicuously small tip.

I did some research and discovered that Omelet House opened at the Plaza in July of 2009 but fell flat on its face. The 31 year old chain still has several other locations in Vegas and Henderson.

I have to say at $22/night (weeknights, through Hotels.com) is a steal. The hotel is very nice.

Downside: the bathroom. Not that you're going to spend a lot of time in it, but the bath/toilet room (separate from the sink/closet space) is so small, you have to be a contortionist to close the door while you're inside. I'm alone, so I'm not going to bother.

I haven't had much time to check out the tables but just walking through I notice there's a disturbing number of CSMs. And "the most liberal blackjack game in the world," with early surrender, double any number of cards and split as many times as you want. Downside: blackjack pays even money unless it's suited and then it pays 2:1 and it's dealt from a CSM.

That might not be so hateful if it wasn't for the CSM.

Even money for blackjack? That a tough one. I guess that makes HILO almost useless. ALMOST.
Its the CSM that makes hilo useless.
A few years ago, this truly was the most liberal game in the world, as BJ paid 3-2 and a suited diamond paid 2-1, but that went the way of the buffalo when Jackie sold the place to that Israeli arms dealer. The Plaza is catching a good bit of flack for its poor video poker paytables and its bad table games.

The BLT Bloody Mary is a beautiful thing. A couple slices of bacon chillin' in the Mary, served with a plate of toast and lettuce. Pretty sweet way to start the AM.

Don't get me started on Bloody Marys. Why is it, any other drink dulls the mind, tend to make one lethargic, but a Bloody Mary clears and brightens the mind and gives focus like nothing else? One does, anyway-- I wouldn't count on two acting the same way.
