Very interesting. I always thought he only sold copies of the book to people he knew to be professional or to people who his friends "vouched" for. I must have been mistaken.

I could see how casinos could benefit, no doubt.

That does appear to be the protocal now. You must be special, many are called few are chosen.

But my comments about casino agents specified the original publication.

Notwithstanding, the higher the price the more valuable it is to any casino or game protection company. If the price was $50K and it was really worth that amount, for example, then certainly the casinos would and do acquire them, regardless of limited purchase restraint. zg

I have heard this attributed to JP Morgan. He supposedly said it in response to someone who asked how much it cost for him to maintain his yacht.

A few years back, I was in a Porsche showroom looking at their new SUV.
I asked the salesman how the mileage was. He looked at me and said if you have to worry about this cars mileage, this may not be the car for you.
I told him he was right, went across the street and bought the Mercedes SUV instead.

I'm going to guess your father wasn't the intellectual type then. The correct approach is to ask, even if you think you don't have to. Then, ask someone else to double check.

Similar to how scientists have to have their results published and reviewed by their peers before any conclusions can really be drawn.

The way you talk about how expensive the book is and how much it is worth to the casinos it almost makes it sound like he was pricing players out and casinos in. I am sure that is not what you are trying to say but the cynic in me definitely felt the vibe.

Well, the publisher's (apparent) sales limits, qualifications, and pricing appear to restrict sales ... but undoubtedly casinos will increasingly support an even higher-priced secondary market until all notable clubs and game-protection consultancies in the world own it or otherwise have access to it.

Could this be the publisher's plan? zg

I didn't get the idea that they were limiting sales at the start. I ordered it when it came out. This is the response I got:

None of the below. My Science Fair exhibit is on the Clean Air Act, so I looked up Exhibit CAA in Google and came across this book. I’m sure it will give me an advantage.

Those would be stats that ExCAA would prefer to bury, I'm sure. :laugh:

But no, my estimate came from Howard and Peter at Gamblers Book Club some years back when the first version
passed a tipping point to MOST of the remaining 1st edition buyers became casinos and their proxies. zg

Good source. And hardly surprising. I mean, if you're Mike Barnett, or the Z-Man, or Jacobson or Shackleford, or someone like Ron Buono, of course you're going to buy the book.
