(Dead link: http://www.silverclub.com/) _Silver Club_ beat the Siena in the going out of business race in Reno/Sparks.

Got word tonight that they will be shut down within a month.!

They have a good SD/DOA game with decent pen.

this means that the Nugget x the street will be even more crowded.

Luckily I am moving up to $25 min tables so I will not be fighting the crowds as much as I have been.

(Dead link: http://www.fitzgeraldsreno.com/) _Fitz_ was great last night, one on one; the SD game is pretty good 4 hands, and I was getting 5 from one dealer.

I guess they figured it would be better to shut down than replace the felt on their tables. Surprising that Rail City outlasted them though.

lol, it is the pretty much the grittiest place around with the exception of the Alamo.

After playing at the Silv.Club the first time, I always wash my hands after playing and even before taking a leak. The chips there along with the Alamo and Rail city are gnarly.

This thread takes me back to my first blackjack experience at the old Riverside. I had no idea what I was doing other than some notion that I had to get as close to 21 as I could. A very patient dealer tried to teach a twenty something basic strategy though I had no idea what she was talking about. We spent 3 nights in Reno that first visit and I remember wandering up and down Virginia Street to the small casinos with their stale beer, cigarette, and urine smell. They were pretty nasty back then but what did I know, they were casinos. Forty years later and I've played all over the world including casinos requiring coat and tie in the evening but I still have fond memories of my first Reno trip. :)

Just got back from a week in Reno and had a great time at Silver Club . . . from what I heard, December 31 will be it for them barring an incredible windfall. :( Had one last hurrah at Fitzgerald's and certainly didn't regret that either . . . Warlord speaks the truth, was getting 5 hands from one dealer consistently!!

What about the heat? Are the employees a little more tolerant because they are closing down?

Exactly what I was wondering. I'm on my way there next week.... hoping they aren't ball busting.

At the Silver Club there was no perceptible heat, even after a real nice session. I think it helps if you've lost there before and they remember you. At Fitzgerald's I played four sessions during the week, none longer than an hour, and only once did I notice a PB hawking my play . . . but that may have been 'cause it was late on a weekday night with the place only half full and he was doing anything to keep from falling asleep. Seriously I really don't think he was all too interested. Good luck!!

Fitz last week

I made it to Fitzgerald's one final time last week, and you really couldn't tell anything was different. No fanfare or balloons or any crap like that, it seemed like a normal day. Hell, I was even accosted by some tweeker in a cracked bicycle helmet - nothing could seem more normal.

I can't say much for the games, either. My first dealer was giving better pen than usual, which put it at what most would consider average. A later dealer was still playing by the rules, which I couldn't understand. It's not like her job was on the line. :joker:
