Unusual behaviour at Crown Casino

I was sitting at a $50 table in the Monte Carlo room recently, casually backcounting and waiting for a good opportunity to Wong in when I noticed a man with 50k in chips sit down next to a ploppy Asian and middle aged businessman. The businessman was losing hundreds of dollars, and was intermittently complaining to me about each of the terrible shoes. The count got to -18 pretty quickly, and didn't seem like going into positive territory any time soon. However, that is when the rich guy piped up. He started openly counting the shoe, and explained to the Asian woman about the benefits of it. The dealer didn't even say a word. The funny thing is, he started half way when it was EXTREMELY negative. He was saying things like, "Wow, we have an RC of +12, that means you have the advantage. Bet big". But really, his RC was way off the mark, it was still heavily negative. I'm not sure whether or not he was serious, and if he could actually count correctly or not. It wasn't anyone from this site, was it?! Haha. He must be some kind of whale, because he flashed his Black Signature Club card (The highest level member, by invite only), not to mention the stack of 5k chips he was ruffling. Some how I don't think his advice was going to rub off, as these players were betting $25-$50 on perfect pairs, which carries a 4% HE on an 8 deck game.

well he probably new the somebody or whatever, so he could do whatever he wanted, hence the card and being able to openly count the shoe with no care about who saw or new. also maybe his count was right, you can start counting a shoe at any point, and just treat cards dealt before you got there as unseen.

the other option is he THOUGHT he new how to count so he blew lots of money in the casino, hence the card and being able to openly count the shoe with no care about who saw or new

Maybe hes one of those players that thinks you can just count up the cards on the table, and bet big the very next hand and make money. I have seen quite a few of those.

He could also be using an opposition betting scheme seeing as he has a ginormous bank capable of doing that.

Say he bets table min at TC +/-1 then spread to 5x that at negetive counts

though when the positive counts come he starts shoving those 5k chips and actually gets away with a monster spread while openly pointing out hiw obvious "failure" at counting cards

The lucky four

One must never rule out the possibilities that some of the people you may run into out in the world are completely crazy or deranged in some way. Never rule out the possibility that people you may encounter claim to know a lot more than they ACTUALLY know.

This doesn't apply only to blackjack but to life in general. When you see a vehicle on the highway careening around other traffic on a busy highway in order to gain an additional car length ahead do you say, "Now THERE's a sane, rational person!"? When you see an episode of "The Jerry Springer show", do you imagine that the guests got there because they are level-headed people?

The casino environment has it's share! We have all seen it! Crazy superstitious gamblers, gamblers invoking "secret psychic powers", gamblers making unusual claims that don't sound quite right to even the most unknowledgeable and gamblers doing things that defy mathematical logic based on the aforementioned. When you hear of someone that plays video poker and says, "I always save the 4... because what if that is the lucky 4!?" do you simply nod in agreement and fight the urge to ask if this is based upon years of study and analysis or do you ask them to elaborate (for entertainment's sake)?

We all know that a basic hi-lo count is not too effective and nothing you will ever get too far with but someone that CLAIMS to be a whizbang card-counter and offers the table advice based on their expertise is the casino's best friend! An ineffective count even when done perfectly and then they screw it up and are way off on top of that?--- They are a casino's best friend! I was watching one of these self-proclaimed blackjack experts at a low stakes table a few weeks back and I stuck around and watched because it was comical. He was giving (incorrect) advice to the whole table and of course they were all doomed... it was really pathetic. I've seen "hunch/luck" players slapping chips out there at ridiculously high stakes also... Was it "fuzzy math" I wondered? Were they just crazy?

Worry about your own playing proficiency and game. Study the actions of typical gamblers in order to learn from their mistakes or even for entertainment's sake and never rule out the possibility that some people you may encounter out there may be misinformed, a little nuts or think they know a lot more than they actually know.

Very sound advice from Tarzan. James Packer might be smarter than Kerry, the ol man. Could the loudmouth, bigshot, know-it-all have been a Packer plant; perhaps to impress easily-led minds into how easy it is to win big at the game of BJ, particularly if you learn how to count? A bunch of 5K (or white) chips is most impressive for some.

As the only casino in town, James is already on record as to his intentions of luring more HL punters from Asia, particularly as Singapore's two new casinos have soaked up some of his (former) whale patrons. His suits on high salaries need to do something to justify their pay cheques. The Packers have a long form line of devious practices. I don't think they are about to stop.

I haven't done any maths to back this up Koz, but -18 RC in the Monte Carlo room is probably still a lower HE than all those pokie machines.

On that basis, he's probably in the top 10% of all Crown patrons.
