Blackjack win dip? Don't look at us

Maybe those crazy kids from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology held a class reunion.

Gaming analysts had trouble explaining why blackjack revenues on the Strip fell almost 18 percent during March. Gamblers wagered $746.6 million on the game, 1.3 percent more than a year ago. However, the win by casinos was $76 million, a 17.8 percent decline from March 2007. The hold percentage, which is normally about 12 percent, was 10.18 percent.

So what happened? Could it have something to do with the movie "21," which premiered at Planet Hollywood Resort in mid-March?

I don't know if the rest of you saw this in today's newspaper, but I found it to be really interesting. I suppose this is the reason for the increased heat that is being reported throughout the Valley. That is a huge loss for the casino, but I am not surprised that they are trying to point the fingers at APs.

A ten million dollar swing could be from 1-2 whales. Not impossible. December 07 Mohegan Sun lost 6 million to 1 player. They brought him back and he lost nearly 8 million then they refused future play because of his nasty personality...right.

Yup, it's definitely all those kids who, just one month ago watched that great techically endowed movie, took massive quantities of notes and within a matter of days were able to perform intricate team maneuvers with 10's of thousands in cash, and no one fingered them! Man, I'm pissed and to think I wasted more than 2 years doing it the hard way.
Or maybe...it's that damn 6:5 stuff. They must have gotten the math backwards. Yeah, that was it alright. So now all of them need to go back to 3:2 SD to get that profit back up.
Or maybe the wise 'ol toad is right. SD does indeed work both ways. But just maybe they won't read this far down.

The article says the movie opened on March 28, so some lucky movie watcher must have made a killing in those last three days of March.

Gambler's did not "wager" $746MM. They purchased $746MM worth of chips.

The casino retained $76MM of those purchases.

Says nothing about how long people played, whether they showed up at the table with chips and purchased nothing, whether they rat-holed or not, etc.

Buy $100 at a table, when you get to $200 pick up all your chips and run away. The casino will report a hold of 100% but yet they lost money.
