I just got an invitation to the opening of City Center. Anybody else getting this invitation? I wonder if the pros will be out in full force to take advantage of this new opening in December? I'm told advantage players generally flock to grand openings.

We all got that same invite.

Anyone who plays any kind of serious
money at the M.G.M. stores received it.

And yes, I will be there.

What is the main thing you will be looking for? Holecarding opportunities? Good pen? Biased wheel? Shuffling inexperience?

One of City's new employees tells me they begin on Dec 8 but the casino doesn't open until Dec 28, but the ad they sent me left the impression the casino opens Dec 16.

When a casino opens it only becomes a real "candy store" when it is located somewhere that has no other casinos for them to draw EXPERIENCED players from.

Under those circumstances, the rate of dealer errors is very high.

The dealers are inexperienced, happy to be working, and eager to please.

If you tell them to insert the cut card near the bottom they are likely to comply.

Getting paid for a BJ on split Aces or Tens may happen.

Resplitting Aces you may experience even though the casino does not offer it.

The advantage is that the floor will have its hands so full watching the dealers that they have no time to watch YOU.

These things will not happen in Las Vegas though, because the new hires are not inexperienced.

The one time that I was there at the opening of a rural "Candy Store", I sat next to a fellow who was a floorperson at a casino 200 miles distant.

He counted using "Uston Advanced Point Count" and I side-counted Aces and kept an Insurance Count.

Almost needless to say, we both did very well playing off of a joint bankroll.

The biggest advantage is that the floor will have its hands so full watching the dealers that they have no time to watch YOU.

As I said above, this will not be relevant to the opening of "ARIA"

I agree. Most of the dealers will be transfers from other MGM properties.

Don't start salivating yet. I'm in LV now. I heard several dealers at Mirage and MGM talking about moving to City Center when it opens. There may be some newbies, but not as many as you might think.

The employees at all the MGM properties put in applications long ago for transfers to City Center. Acceptances have already begun pouring in. I know one person who is reporting for duty on December 8 to prepare for the grand opening. He is a top notch surveillance person. City Center hopes to rival even the Bellagio for class and style, and some of MGM's best personnel are being selected to make it happen. I doubt you will see much lack of professionalism even on opening day.

The first day at Encore was so crowded there was a line to enter the casino.:joker::whip:

Expect same at City Center:joker::whip:
I wonder how many big names in AP, genuine or fake, like to be at these openings just for the celebrity. My friends who work for the casinos mentioned various such celebrities who showed up for similar openings. Do they want to see if they can beat the new casino before all the kinks are worked out, or is it that they just want to be seen, knowing that they have little chance of doing anything with all eyes looking for them?

Major casinos will have a public opening on a particular scheduled/advertised day;

but may have a special invitation-only premiere a day or two beforehand.

Sometimes these openings are termed "soft openings" I believe.

This is a "trial run" that sometimes "irons out a few kinks"

They used to have a celebrity make the first toss of the dice at Craps, etc.

Big Party. Lots of Papparazzi.

Sounds like it might be worth it for the party. Do they give away anything? Food? Drink? Special prizes?
