Although I am still contemplating adding a copy of BC2 to my BJ library, it sounds to me that JG has put together a 700 page book with strategies to beat a variety of games.

Arnold Snyder sold 5 different "How to beat the x deck game" and sold them for $25 each and that was related to only one single game, blackjack. For $125 you bought a piece of work for the same game but with different amount of decks, SD,DD,4D,6D,8D.

For $250 your getting an analysis of ways to beat other games (are there about 10 games? at $25ea.) which may or may not have sparked your interest in the game before JG showed you the way. For those with open minds, BJ may not be your cup of tea, but the "carnival" games may be to your liking and with JG's theories it may help you on your way to beat the casino.

I like the analogy in an earlier thread comparing the publics thoughts of the book in 1961-2 when Beat the Dealer was released, to what the posters are saying in this thread about BC2.

Overall I feel the price is a bit steep as it's price is based on the prior books inflated "collectors market" ebay/amazon price which had the book not been limited to 1000 copies the market would never have placed such a high price for in the first place.

In 15 years from now Grosjean may be used for Carnival Games as Griffin is for Blackjack.

JG if your reading this, I am still considering it, so please make sure you save me a copy. :)

BJC

Note: If a similar version to Don S.'s BJA3 was written for the other games would you purchase it at $25.00 ea? How many old timers purchased the advanced strategy booklets issued for RPC, RAPC, and some of the other at $25-$200/booklet?

Edit 2: For those who spent $50 for Snyders Cookbook, did it give you all the details or did it hold back on some of them to prevent the "other side" from reading the book and learning how to countermeasure your attack.

Grosjean's book doesn't talk about any of these. Less than half his book is committed to blackjack and little of that is committed to counting.

So just what does he deal with in the book? I may loose my desire to get a copy after all.

Did "Beat the Dealer" kill card counting?

Books don't kill games, players do.
Books and sloppy, irrational, insensitive, tell all postings ruin games.

Ruined games mean ruined opportunities.

Authors such as Thorp and Wong, Snyder, Don S. etc. are more interested in their own celebrity than anything else since they make very little from their tell all books. ( Even though their books are excellent and I am sure they are fine people). At least Grosjean has put an outlandish price on his work, and thus this wunderkid will make a great return on his investment... but it still will find its way into casino hands.

Posters on public sites who spill their guts about fine games or advanced techniques do so out of a feeling of inadequacy, or a great need to somehow impress others.

We can be our own worst enemy. And believe it or not the movie 21 will be seen in time as a big negative for AP's.

Panther I agree totally, an advantageplayer must make his own
experiances and not relay on the books of these gentlemen,
ok I wouldn't say they are liars and cheaters, but not far away,
because they make us believe that's easy to make much money by
Blackjack.

I would recommend to read books about trading, there are authors
who tell the trouth.
Like Victor Sperandeo, the turtle traders , Alexander Colin.

Arnold Snyder always claims to protect gamblers, first he want's to protect
his money.
I am very disappointed of him.

coupons

If you ever receive mail from casinos with coupons you almost certainly are not playing them optimally. That chapter alone is just one of many that will pay for the price of the book.

i read the first book at the unlv library and it wasnt much use to me. its all about finding dealers that flash a card. i cant find any. i guess you have to spend all day looking. i rather count. you cant beat any of the games he mentions w/o a sloppy dealer. i hope the 2nd edition has info on beating other games straight up like bj, and not hope for a sloppy dealer.

The bottom line is if you can see the 3rd card in 3 card poker, than you need the book to get the playing strategy, but if you dont find dealers that do that, than you dont need the book.

Beating the Game Straight Up

The info in this post may be too sensitive Re:3CP

How can you beat any games straight-up? What does that mean? There are many examples of how to beat games without holecarding in both editions if that is what you are getting at. If you have never seen a sloppy dealer in 3CP you don't know what you are looking for. And if you would rather count that try to spot sloppy dealers then Beyond Counting isn't for you. You can judge a book by it's title sometimes.

Quote of the week -
Why should one be willing to pay $250 for a gambling book written by a guy who didn't have the grey matter to figure out that Spanish 21 was the most profitable casino game to play? And that craps was comparable in EV. --4Flusher @ BJFO in reponse to Arnold's review.
