Anything you have to do to put food on the table isn't as much fun as when it was a recreational activity (eg., fishing.)

What if all the casinos put in CSMs? You need something to fall back on.
Do you envision me and Scotth grinding away everyday just to make ends meat year after year sacrificing and living a frugile lifestyle forced to keep playing into our 80's? Do you envision us working long hours, doomed into male prostitution to pay rent, resorting to hobo gimmiks in front of casino management to avoid heat, cutting cupons, dumpster diving, chasing losses, living a lonely anti-social life, suffering poor health from the stereotypical gamber lifestyle but no health insurance to get healthy? Do you imagine us as a couple of stupid, spoiled, delusional, ignorant, 20 year olds who have been sheltered our whole lives? Well you're wrong. I don't plan on working past my 20's. This is a get rich quick scheme ok. Eveyone says that it's not, but it is. I'm going to get rich and I'm going to get rich quick. You guys and your negativity. There was some quote somewhere that I don't remember:
What your mind can concieve, you can believe, you can achieve or something. You know when there is a will there is a way. I don't care if blackjack vanishes off the face of the earth today. Eveything happends for a reason and that reason is always self serving. So CSM's will turn my focus to other money making methods where I will get rich even faster. But since it hasn't happened yet, I know that this is the best path for me.

1. CSMs can't stop me from becoming rich.
2. I'm going to enjoy a life of luxuray even durning those brief periods of "work". Because work is play. Otherwise I would do something else.

Good post.

P.S. What does your signature "Whew a rubber tree" mean?

No. You're both smart guys, you'll smarten up long before that.

Yes! All of the greats have done this at some time or another, better players than me, and better players than you. Read Clarke Cant's Blackjack Therapy essay. He talks about playing coupons, getting your clothes from thrift shops, and finding spare change on the streets. He wrote this back when there was still single deck and 99 cent buffets in Vegas. Then read the rest of the essay and tell me you think you know more about BJ than him.

Do you imagine us as a couple of stupid, spoiled, delusional, ignorant, 20 year olds who have been sheltered our whole lives?
No. You're not at all stupid.

You won't do it in a casino. You get rich over years to decades of hard work (both at the table and at your computer) and ethical treatment of all you encounter in the business.

You guys and your negativity. There was some quote somewhere that I don't remember:
What your mind can concieve, you can believe, you can achieve or something.
Yeah I saw that quote! It was on a poster on a wall at a telemarking outfit I worked at in college, for $5 an hour. The truth is, good ideas are cheap. It's implementation that's the key, and implementation is hard work.

You know when there is a will there is a way. I don't care if blackjack vanishes off the face of the earth today. Eveything happends for a reason and that reason is always self serving. Don't worry about CSM's. Worry about the things you can't conceive of. Worry about someone reaching under the toilet stall whilst you sit relieving yourself and relieving you of half your bankroll. Worry about getting framed up or set up for some crime and having to hand your bankroll over to a criminal defense lawyer.

And worry about variance. What is going to happen when you hit 2 SD of bad variance? You know what a SD is, you know how likely you are to experience this.

We are not one-dimensional AP's. Blackjack is not the only way to do advantage play. We'll "fall back" on those... :)
Perhaps. But if you were ready for those other types of AP, you'd know Vegas is not nearly the best place for them. As a general rule, the more "off the beaten path" a casino is, the more likely you are to find an advanced-AP opportunity.

Dude Vegas is no doubt the place to be! We can restrict our play to full moons, which in Vegas, that gives the blackjack player a 2% edge. There is nothing a CSM can do about that.

Do you have a link to Cant's essay?

Whew a rubber tree is from Monkey Island when Guybrush falls from a cliff and miraculously bounces back up to safety due to a rubber tree. You'd have to play it to understand how funny that part is. I guess it's an inside joke between myself.

Well, Nevada is the only state that allows other AP methods such as sportsbetting. I was doing some small +EV action online during all of the last NFL season, but the internet gambling ban screwed that over. I was just starting to get really efficient at it. At the end I would spend hardly any time and would get the same great bets that professionals were making, most even better!

Please don't recommend or burn out the north mid-west casinos like J.J. w/4, .75, DAS, S17 before I move back there AM. :)

Oh, it's like "Whew, I'm sure glad I hit a rubber tree!"

Is that a video game?

Why not? Nobody will believe me anyway.

One of the harder parts for me playing up there is adjusting my demeanor for the environment. You don't want to be spewing the F-word like you do in Atlantic City.

I'm still deciding where my next trip should be to. MN/WI, UP of Michigan, WA state, NM. Or maybe Tunica, I haven't been there yet.

Yah it was a computer game made in 1990. It has had 3 sequals which have all been pretty good. I like Monkey Island 2 the best. They made Monkey Island 4 for the PS2.

No kidding...that whole internet ban really put a cramp on my NFL action too. After losing a trusted handler a few years back, internet sportsbooks were the way to go. The NFL season was undoubtedly one of my biggest "hobby incomes" until last season when all that went to ****. Now, we've be relegated to heading to Vegas once a season to hop on a good weekend of action. It's tough...enjoy THAT while you are there in the fall. Nothing like it.

good luck

Then why don't you just get a bookie?

If he is as successful with his action on sports, bookies don't like you beating their brains in. I imagine (don't have extensive experience in person doing this) that you could spread your action out at different houses in Vegas and not catch a lot of heat if you are that good. Plus, you can shop around for better lines there too.

good luck

I don't know about bookies in out of the way places, but the internet ban on gambling hasn't affected a single sports bettor I know.Bookies still taking the action and still offering all the usual stuff. If you can bet it in Vegas, you can bet it in almost any Irish bar in NYC.

The people who do this for a living go way beyond spreading action around in Vegas. You're competing against large international syndicates who have action down in arbitrage all over the world. If you're betting with information you don't need arbitrage, and there's no way to tell who is and isn't doing that.

If I were to go into that business, I'd team up with a few people in all the venues in Nevada and shop for the numbers that way. At least with that kind of a team it's easier to keep everyone honest.
