I played once on the Canadian side, Casino Niagra, I believe. It was several years ago; but I won enough to pay for most of my vacation trip.

Yes

There are 2 casinos on the Canadian side. Casino Niagara and Casino Fallsview and both are within walking distance of each other. All games are 8 deck shoes, DOA, DAS, split hands up to four times, no surrender available and penetration about 70% on average. Unfortunately some of the tables now have CSM's. Anything in particular you would like to know?

I will be going to Niagara Falls in October. I am glad to hear that both casinos on the Canadian side are within walking distance. On the other hand my wife will not be happy to hear there is a casino any where near the Falls, let alone two. .I will report back what the tables are like. What about the US side? Anyone know the scoop on this side of the border?

Seneca Niagara

I've been to the Niagara Falls casinos several times in the past year. The Seneca Niagara casino (on the US side). Nice place, the atmosphere is a bit more casual than on the other side. No SD or DD, however. All 8 or 6 deck shoes, but the rules are good, and I did find plenty of 10-15 dollar tables. And I found the dealers to be rather friendly, too. NOTE: drinks are free on the American side, but you have to pay for cocktails on the Candian side. Yep, you pay the waitress right at the table .. kind of cuts into the profits.

I've played on both sides a couple of times, and did find the American side dealers and bosses to be much friendlier.

There are signs on the tables on the Canadian side stating that giving away drinks is illegal there. Figures - the provincial government runs the casinos AND makes the laws :)

The Seneca's have just announced a site for another casino in downtown Buffalo - about 30 minutes from the falls.

CSMs? Is that what they called the enclosed shoes? What does that acronym stand for?

I played at Fallsview, and was surprised to see these non-see-through shoes and no discard pile. After each hand the dealer puts the cards in the back of this 'shoe'.

Are the cards constantly being shuffled in there?

I guess my main question now is; is it possible to count when you're playing against a never-ending shoe? Do you just start when you sit down and take if from there?

Seneca Allegany

Yes, everytime I've played on the Canadian side, they use the continuous shuffle machines. I had never seen anything like this before, so it took me a while to figure out what was going on - why the dealer never shuffled!

I will leave it to Ken or someone else wiser than me to weigh in on the strategy for games like this, but I would have to think that Basic Strategy and flat betting is the best option.

The Seneca tribe also operates Seneca Allegany in Salamanca, NY, close to the Pennsylvania border. A comfortable place, almost identical to the Niagara Falls facility, only smaller. Again, the BJ is all shoe games. Very crowded on the weekends, but I've played there often during the week and had a very enjoyable time.

Canadian casions

Niagara Falls on the Canadian side is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Every where you look you only see green grass, pretty flowers and wonderfully landscaped yards. No trash or no graffiti. There is also a lot of interesting attractions to visit. I just got back after spending four wonderful days on the Canadian side, but lets talk about the casinos.

I only went to the two casinos on the Canadian side, Casino Niagara and Niagara Fallsview Casino. Casino Niagara is older, like visiting downtown Las Vegas, and there is nothing extra special about it. Niagara Fallsview Casino is only one year old and it is beautiful. There is a lot of space and every thing about it is first class.

Now the difference between Canadian casinos and Nevada casinos. In Canada the age to smoke, drink and gamble is 19 (NV = 21, smoke = 18). All your winnings in Canada are tax free (NV = major taxes). The progressive limits and side bet payouts are lower in the two casinos, for slots and other table games. This makes a lot of the table side bets not worth it. EXAMPLE: Pai Gow Poker in NV (Reno) the highest fortune bonus pays 4,000 to 1. At both Niagara casinos the highest fortune bonus pays only 2,500 to 1. Niagara casinos Mega Bucks $1 slot machine progressive pays 1.5 million, for now. In NV it is 10+ million.

The Blackjack tables at Niagara Fallsview Casino are almost all CSM. You can find one shoe game (8D) per pit, but 25 to 500 limits. At the CSM tables the limits are 5 to 200 and 10 to 300. All BJ games have same rules: double on any first two cards of hand, even after split. Split up to 4 times except Aces only split once and only one card per Ace. Dealer stands on all 17s. In the high limit area all BJ games are 6 deck shoes with table limits of 100 to 2,500.

You pretty much nailed it Radioguy21. With CSM (Continuous Shuffle Machines) there is no advantage to be had by counting since the deck's potential pretty much stays the same except for the cards in play for that hand.

On the bright side, if you are not a counter, the house edge is basically the same as a shoe or hand dealt game that has the same number of decks and same table rules as the CSM game. I have seen some claims that the CSMs actually produce a very miniscule edge that is less favorable to the House than normally shuffled games.

The animosity from BJ players towards CSMs is that it is just another ploy to prevent advantage players from plying their skills. Each hand has to be played as though the entire deck were reshuffled after each hand is finished. That can produce some really weird streaks if the CSM is loaded with EIGHT DECKS! <LOL>

Fallsview only has a few CSM's its mostly 8 deck shoes but Casino Niagara has lots of CSM's so it is still OK to go to Niagara as long as you go to Fallsview casino which is nicer anyway!
