I attended a gaming technology convention about 5 years ago in which Griffin had a booth where they were demonstrating the Biometrica technology. The way it works - or at least the way it worked at the time was; the camera would focus on the subject, and the computer would pull up about a dozen or so images of the people in their database who MOST closely resembled the subject in question.

As a test, I stepped in front of the camera and of the 12 images it pulled up, it did NOT find a picture of me. (and my picture definitely IS in Griffin's database, no question about it)

Yes, I always wear a cap (as do MOST APs, of course).
I've also been told that wearing eyeglasses WITHOUT anti-glare coating helps. I ALWAYS refuse the coating when I get new glasses; so far (though I can't say with 100% certainty) I don't believe facial recognition technology has ever gotten me busted YET.
I thought that a hat was undesireable because it is something that gives you away as a counter. I have went with and without.

I thought the same thing for many years, because a hat really IS a giveaway. But then I started to notice how many PLOPPIES also wear a hat, and I've become of the opinion that the UP side to wearing a hat outweighs the DOWN side (six of one, half dozen of the other).

I like to wear one but was a bit worried it be obvious why I like to wear one. You are totally right though, I see a lot of hats on many types of ploppies where I play.

baldness

Bald people usually wear hats. I was going to say remove your hat to show your bald at some point but then I realized that would defeat the whole purpose of wearing the hat to begin with.

agree 100%. It's a card counter stereotype...but half the people in casinos these days, especially during the day, are wearing hats of all sorts. The benefits of foiling FRS and keeping the eye from seeing where you are looking (when you look at discards or whatever) outweighs any risk. If they run a check on everyone wearing a hat it would be great. It would be like a casino with all single deck running a check on anyone playing single deck.

My wife was playing poker in a casino card room.

The floorman came up and told her that Security, by way of the Eye, insists that she take her hat off.

I was up on a casino in the midwest almost $200,000 and still haven't been backed off...of course going on a $275,000 losing streak helped my relationship with them. Same place I hit my biggest single winning shoe +$36,000 in one six deck shoe and biggest single losing shoe -$32,000. Had back to back shoes where I won $26,000 and then lost all of it back on the next shoe. Insane!
I am not surprised. Call me crazy, superstitious, or at least unscientific, but I am never surprised to see a good shoe follow a bad one or vice versa. I have waited patiently for "that one good shoe" enough to know that they don't grow on trees. For that reason, I never expect a good shoe to follow a good shoe, and besides, if it was really a good shoe, I am probably long gone. Poof!

The best facial recognition device out there.
I have a friend who does surveillance. She claims she never forgets a face and claims she will recognize a counter she has backed off even in disguise. Naturally, I don't believe it; I think she is overestimating her ability, and really has no way of knowing. I admire her confidence, but I just don't believe it. I may wear a disguise on her shift next time I'm in town just to see if she recognizes me.

I've heard of studies that show that woman are better than men at recognizing faces. Anecdotally, kind of explains why your wife or gf are better at recalling actors in movies and TV. So she might be as good as she says :)

I know, I know. But I don't want to believe it. She is pretty positive that no one can get over on her. It would be fun trying.
