Our special chat guest on July 29th, 2010 is Anthony Curtis, publisher of the Las Vegas Advisor.

Anthony Curtis seems to pop up everywhere these days. He has become the go-to guy whenever someone in the media wants to discuss anything Vegas. His Las Vegas Advisor website and newsletter are the gold standard when it comes to information about the city, its gambling, and its attractions.

Curtis started in the trenches as a card counter. He ended up on a very successful tournament team among other gambling exploits over the years. These days he runs Huntington Press, a publisher of gambling books and of course the LVA newsletter.

Anthony is truly one of the good guys in this business, and I'm glad to have him as a friend. He's generously agreed to be a special guest in our (Dead link: http://www.blackjackinfo.com/bb/addonchat.php) _chatroom_ here at BlackjackInfo.com.

The guest chat is scheduled for Thursday, July 29th, 2010 at 9 PM Eastern.
That's 8 PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PM Pacific Thursday.
(Friday 0100 UTC)

Will this be moderated or can we address him directly? On his LVA website, he's got a really bad habit of banning anyone who dares question his expertise on anything, even when he's clearly wrong. He banned me for posting that the American Casino Guide offered more in savings than his recent POV. It's not like it was a free site, either. I paid $52 to belong to it, and he bans me and refuses to issue a refund, all because I questioned his statement that there was no other coupon book that came close to his in expected values.

It must have been your tact (or lack of it) because I've always found AC to be nothing but fair, straight forward and pleasant for the something like 20 years I've known him.

A chargeback is definitely in order.

I was just about to "refudiate" that such a word exists.
I had to look it up.
To expurgate is to cut out from a book, play, film, speech anything thought by the expurgator unsuitable for the readers or an audience.

Heck I knew that as a teenager ever since the unexpurgated version of Fanny Hill came out! Being a good Catholic boy, of course, I just skipped over the bad parts :yikes: and read it for its literary value. :) Now about that bridge in Brooklyn I have for sale.... :cool2:

I'll be honest. I don't really know much about Anthony Curtis. (why don't he go by Tony Curtis? ) I know he publishes Las Vegas Advisor, which I purchased on one occasion a couple years ago before a vegas trip, and have seen him on a couple shows on the travel channel talking about vegas and gambling. Other than that, like I said, I don't know. Wikipedia (and we all know how accurate that is) lists him as a blackjack player and gambling expert.

It should be fun and I am sure I will learn something new, as I have from the recent chats that I have attended and I thank Ken for the opportunity. :)

I was a member of LVA for years, and while I never met him, we'd exchanged PMs and spoken on the boards many times.
Never had a problem until he listed this years coupons and got super-defensive and down right nasty to people who complained about them.
He edited out negative comments from threads and tried to pretend the edited threads were not edited.
When caught in an outright lie, He went into a hissy fit and banned some three dozen longtime members over the lack of matchplays in this years POV.He said he didn't want people that might abuse MPs associated with his product, which is pretty ironic seeing as he built his reputation by hustling MPs at the old Lady Luck casino. He announced that the POV was really nothing more than an extra and what we really pay for is his newsletter and use of his website and boards. After he banned me, I filed a dispute with the CC company. Then he claimed that the $52 was actually for the POV and the newsletter, and the web site was an extra and people banned from the website were still getting what they paid for. I figured they owed me $X for the time I'd had remaining on my membership. After several phone calls, someone at Paladin offered to send me a few books and we'd call it even.
I look forward to his appearance

It's been a few years since I've seen or talked to AC and maybe he's changed a little. Business can certainly harden people as I can attest to after 41 years and counting. I'm not joking when I say that I was a lot nicer person years ago. It's a fact!
Anyway, I don't think anyone questions his gambling "savvy". When you travel with people like Wong, Blair Rodman and Ken Smith you're "up there" in my book.

I remember this. There was some other similar criticisms that arose.
I recall some others being miffed because Curtis was denouncing ADVANTAGE PLAY using his coupons legitimately, or something?

Curtis may have lost the plot momentarily, but as long as his chat isn't moderated, or least not by the WRONG person (you know who you are ) it should provide a healthy catharsis for all. zg

Ps - Hey Anthony, "it won't cure you but its the only sustenance we can slide under the door!"
