card counting in austria

#1
hi everyone,

i'm a math student at the vienna university of technology, austria. recently i got very interested in playing blackjack after visitng a casino for the first time. i already know the basic strategy by heart and what's behind it (derivation).

every casino in austria offers DAS, Dealer Stands on Soft 17, Double Any 2 Cards, no peak and unfortunately no surrender. so according to the engine on this site and other sources the house egde is about 0,55%.

and here's the problem: all casinos use a shuffle star mixer (= automatic shuffler), with 6 decks. after 2 or 3 rounds the dealer puts the played cards back into the machine, so the cards are constantly being shuffled.
and here's my question: is it even possible to count cards if there's a shuffle star? i have my doubts, that's why i ask. i wish there would be 1 or 2 deck(s) games here in austria, but no! :(

i'm ready to get into serious card counting only if i have chance.
hope someone can help me, i appreciate every reply. :)

That game cannot be beaten because it has insufficient penetration. If they dealt out 4 decks before feeding the cards back into the ASM then it might be worth your time. As described the game sounds too weak even for backcounting.

^^ thank you, that's what i thought. those ASMs suck, big time.

in the czech republic, so i hear, some casinos** offer a surrender option (except no surrender vs ace) and still have those classic shoes. i think i'll give it a try next time i visit the country, till then i'm not going to spend money at my local casinos here in vienna.

Surrender
If you have already received your first two cards and the dealer does not have an ace, you may “surrender” or finish your game early. Half of your bet will be given to the bank. If you obtain a third card or the cards are split or doubled, you cannot surrender.

No, you can't use counting against the CSM (continuous shuffling machine). The house will have constant 0.55% edge.

You need to find casinos hand shuffle or use ASM (automatic shuffling machine) which deals out 80% of the deck out not just 2 or 3 rounds.

^^ yes, thank you for the confirmed suspicion. i have to seek out to slovakia or as i mentioned before, to the czech republic because german casinos are the same BS as austrian ones.

Does anyone else see the hilarity in posting about Austria under the Australian section? Makes me think of Jim Carrey in 'Dumb and Dumber' and throwing a shrimp on the barbie.

Yeah, HAHA; and when Dubya was in Australia for the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum a few years back; in his closing speech he thanked AUSTRIA for hosting it in Sydney.

Not ASM - ASM only shuffles, then cards go into regular shoe. The Star is a CSM (continuous shuffling).
MAYBE the CSM can be beat with ACE key-card tracking. The subject of keycard ACE prediction at CSM has never been settled yes/no. zg

There are better games in Europe, I am told. Possibly in France. zg
