when do i know

#1
Hi everybody, i am new to this forum and also new to card counting, i have been trying to teach myself to card count, i think i am doin ok but am not sure, i am learning the +1 -1 system, i have managed to count 6 pack quite quickly which i think is a good start considering i only started teaching myself on wednesday but obviously i am no where near being at the standard to go into a casino and doin it, what my question is, is when i am betting how do i know when to bet, for example i was practicing earlier and i was at a count of + 17 but i still had roughly 4 1/2 pack left, when would i have bet if i was playing real money?

+17 of a running count. you'd have to first convert it to the true count by dividing running count by the amount of decks left.

with the true count, you can decide your betting. everyone bet's differently, depending on the bankroll size.

but in the case of a high count, most would say to go big at that moment.

re: bet ramps

rarensu39,

You said: "... everyone bet's differently, depending on the bankroll size."

What you said implies, (to an uninformed player), that when and how much one wagers is a direct product of how much money they have in their pockets.

It fails to consider important factors such as penetration and the rules being offered, and number of players at the table.

Computer software is used to compute an OPTIMAL Bet Spread.

There are many betting schemes. A simple one would be 2 units on the first hand. If the count is positive, raise to three units. If its negative, lower to one. A running count of +17 with 4 1/2 decks left would find me raising my bet from 2 units to 3.
I'm not sure how the number of players sitting at the table matters.

The Gamemaster’s Free Counting School has some information on how to bet with the true count. There is a link in the Free Counting Resources thread. Specifically check out lessons 8 and 19. You can also find suggested bet spreads for different systems in just about any decent card counting book.
