Me and a couple friends are going to start counting cards soon and I was wondering what our story should be. The reason why I ask this is because we are all university students and I was thinking that a bunch of university students in a casino gambling lots of money might seem a bit suspicious ( we are engineering students as well, doesn't get anymore stereotypical than that). Do you think that it would be best for us to say we dont' go to school and work? Pretend we all have rich parents whose money we are gambling? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Pretend to be Silicon Alley types, music promoters, drug dealers... anything except what you really are. zg

hopefully ya'll wont be at the same table much, right? that would kind of make the point mute, no? won't you be as if your not even together?
are you all playing to the same bankroll or as individuals?
or if your all together just having fun sort of thing that won't necessarily be set off alarms, either.
course i don't really know, lol i'm an unstereotypical ole coot lone wolf. i just see plenty of all kinds of folks in the joints i frequent, no big deal really.

*engineering students*.
If you're playing for small money, don't bother.

If you're playing for bigger money, then get creative.

Incidentally, last year I had the perverse situation of sitting down at a table full of buddies, all of whom were, literally, rocket scientists... and I was the only one counting cards.

Tell them you are a bunch of college students, you watched the movie "21", and you are planning on taking down the house.

Seriously. You will probably get an immediate dinner comp and a hearty welcome.

You probably don't need a story at all. If you're all counting together and can trust each other with money, why not engage in some (fun and profitable) team play?

Your biggest problem will be one of the players getting heat, and the rest of you getting heat by association. Just remember that the casinos can have eyes everywhere, excluding your room and the bathroom, but including the room corridors (so if you all enter a room together they can tell you're together).

If you need a story and want to play together, my suggestion is young investment bankers in town for a college reunion. Dress sharply and learn to sound douchey. Pick up some of the lingo - any sort of "management buzzword" list will be pretty close.
