You can believe it! Gold Spike is getting spiffy

Remodeled phase will show sparkly side of once-seedy downtown casino

REVIEW-JOURNAL

If you've set foot in the Gold Spike at any point during the past five years, set down your morning beverage before reading the next sentence -- or risk squirting coffee out your nose.

The first phase of a remodeling project at the (formerly?) seedy joint is scheduled to open to the public Tuesday and will make the Gold Spike, at least the refurbished part, one of the spiffiest casino floors in downtown Las Vegas.

That place really was or is a dump but at least it looks like they will have table games back soon.
Stork and I put some serious hours in there in 05 - some of the funniest moments were when he and I
were the only two players, each at a different table - the old Asian-lady shift boss really liked me! zg

Forgot about her. Used to perch on my shoulder like a parrot when I played.

I wonder if they will keep the old "copper mine". Whole corner section of penny slots -- that took and paid actual pennies.

I still can't get over the fact that the guys who bought it from Tameres were able to flip it for a $5 million dollar profit almost overnite.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this just north of downtown??? If it is, my wife and I made the trip over there one night about 2:00 AM. We went inside and there were crackheads everywhere:eek::eek: She instantly wanted to leave, but me, being the big guy I am insisted everything would be okay:joker: Talk about the biggest dive of a casino I've ever been in. She sat and played a slot and it paid out pennies:joker::joker: Funniest thing I ever saw!
