Station or strip casinos hotel rooms?

My girlfriend and I will be visiting a family member who is staying at the Golden Nugget. We'll be there for 4 nights and 5 days - Monday night through Friday, next month.

Are any of the station casinos decent to stay at? Are they in a bad area?

I'm liking the station DD games for my red chip trip bankroll with one or two hands of $5 to two hands of up to $30. 1-12 spread. My gf and I sometimes drop to one hand in negative counts depending on the situation, if tolerated..

Or should we just stay on the strip and drive downtown to visit family and to the station casinos to play blackjack? I'd rather stay where I play blackjack.

If I stay on the strip I'm thinking NYNY or the MGM for their 6 deck games..

Thanks!

Station casinos are mostly not in bad areas, but are spread out all over LV. If you are staying on the south strip, and have a car, Palace Station on Sahara is about 5 minutes away.

I believe all Station properties require double the min bet for two hands so you would be spreading 2 @ 10-30 in a play all situation, not exactly going to get you the big bucks.

Some places limit mid-shoe entry and I've even seen that include spreading to 2 hands. And also have seen it used if you sit out a hand, you're done until the next shuffle.

I doubt a 5-30 spread will cause you any problems though.

Strip hotel rooms tend to be much nicer than off-strip hotel rooms, although there may be exceptions due to renovations. Avoid Imperial Palace. Newer strip hotel rooms tend to be nicer than older ones. Many show pictures of rooms and suites on their websites.

Is Palace Station a nice place to stay? Cheaptickets has a four night Monday to Thurs night package beginning at $26.00 per night, which sounds unusually cheap.

Now that I've looked further I see that the stations are spread all over like you mention.. I was trying to stay close to both downtown and the strip..

Also, according to July CBJN they have good rules and great pen..

Good rules, good pen. and a sleaze factor. It could use a renovation, which might in turn attract a better class of clientele, judging from my last two visits there.

Tower rooms aren't bad at all. Courtyard rooms suck. I prefer the strip but when I only spend a small amount of time in the room, as long as it's clean, I'm not that picky.

To clarify, I have never stayed at the Palace Station. I have only played there because of the rules and pen. I do not feel easy there late night or wee hours of the morning. May be just me. Also, I don't care for many of the people who frequent the tables there.

It's clean and quiet, for the most part. The hot tub and pool area is not always crowded, which is nice. And they have a video arcade!
Much different than the casino area then.

Unless Palace Station has removed them recently, it charges a resort fee that is usually not quoted in public rates. So that $26 a night room may really be $40, depending on how much the resort fee is. For $40, you might be able to stay in a Strip room with no resort fee for the same price.

The Caesars properties do not charge a resort fee, but the MGM ones do. Buyer beware...

At the cage they have one window for check cashing and one for chips so they attract alot of laborers on thursday and friday evenings. I never felt uncomfortable inside, but the parking lot after dark is suspect. 2100 is about as late as i am comfortable there.

They are good in that department. Last year when I visited the blackjack tables there, within five minutes a hostess came to the table and greeted me profusely. She treated me to a lobster dinner at one of their restaurants. And, I am always getting mailings, some of them handwritten notes, and room offers. They sure did make me feel welcome. I just don't particularly care for the atmosphere late at night when I like to play.

So it wouldn't be a good place to play between 9 pm and 1 am with a girlfriend?

Any other times?

I would not take my wife there at night, but I did meet with a couple there at night and they did not express any concern. If you want to impress your girlfriend, don't take her to the Palace. Consider that although this casino is a stone's throw from the strip, the room rate begins at $29.99, whereas the best of the Station casinos the Red Rock, and Green Valley Ranch, begin at $100, and these hotel/casinos are far off the beaten track. If you like Station casinos, Red Rock is all the way out Charleston at the I-215-- a bit of a distance, but easy to find. And it is a first class package.

Any casino on the strip, except maybe the aging Circus Circus, Riviera, Imperial Palace and a few others range nice to superb. I once found a good game at Circus Circus, but regretted the mile long solitary trek from the gaming area to self-parking in the wee hours of the morning carrying a large bankroll. Also, The M Resort is superb-- it's about as far south as you can travel on South Las Vegas Blvd., some 12 miles.

PM me if you want to know about games.

Stayed at the Green Valley Ranch. The suite we had was great. It had a private pool on our porch, a full sized pool table and a private chef on call for us. One of the best suites I have had the pleasure of enjoying. My wife loved the public pool. She was a competitive swimmer so she is kind of picky about that. It was a long time ago so I have no clue what the rates are. It was comped on someone else's action anyway. At the time they had worse BJ than in Vegas proper.
