Dealer error - accidentally hits soft 17

#1
The dealer was showing a 6 and no one at the table hit. He had an ace in the hole, and then hit twice and drew to 21. This was in Pennsylvania where standing on 17 is required. I'm the only one who noticed it and ask for the pit boss. While I had a stiff and would have lost anyway, the pit boss allows the hand to be replayed since no one took a hit. The dealer's hand was known to be a soft 17, but we were given the option to pull our bet back. Everyone who had less than 17 did that, which made for a happy resolution.

What was startling was that no one else noticed that the dealer hit soft 17.

Same thing happened to me in reverse. I was at a H17 table. Dealer showed a 6. Everybody at the table was stiff and stood. Dealer turned over an Ace and started to collect. I objected and he hit and eventually busted. The other people congratulated me. I couldn't believe that I was the only person at the table that noticed.

It's confusing to dealers if there are H17 and S17 tables in the same casino and the dealers rotate. But in PA, every table is S17.

It's nice that in my case, they ruled in the player's favor and didn't force everyone to take a push if they had over 17 or force everyone who had a stiff to take a loss. Now if the dealer busted instead of pulling a 21, I would have kept my mouth shut and kept my winnings.
